I know that for a couple centuries now the 'consensus' is that July 4, 1776 is USA birthdate because that is when the Declaration of Independence was published/presented; however some historians would suggest that when the first battle between Colonials and English soldiers/Redcoats is what really marks the beginning.

After the "Shots heard 'round the World" were fired, there was little chance of any reconciliation/compromise between the two factions regarding colonial self-rule.
Excerpt;
"By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world."

– Ralph Waldo Emerson, "Concord Hymn"
On April 19, 1775, the first shots of the American Revolutionary War rang out in Lexington and Concord. The following eight years brought conflict and casualty across North America, the Caribbean, and the Atlantic Ocean. An end to the war came on September 3, 1783 with the signature of the Treaty of Paris, establishing the United States of America as an independent nation. This year marks 250 years since “the shot heard round the world.” Learn more about the events that transpired by browsing our curated digital exhibits below, or by viewing the full Revolution 250 digital collection.

I’ve made the case for this several times around here. I understand why the Declaration of Independence gets the majority of the fame and glory but Patriots Day should be a e Holiday as well.

A lot of your problem is because you can't understand that the US doesn't complete its 250th. year until April 76.

The number of years is far less relevant to me than the month and day which are celebrated. The willingness to kill British troops is far more important to me than some piece of paper.

Sorry but it was too good to pass up!

And tomorrow you'll be back to calling everybody else, stupid again!

Should be June 9, 1772. That's when the HMS Gaspee, a Royal Navy revenue schooner was ran aground from chasing the packet ship Hannah in Narragansett Bay. Some boys from Providence went down and burned the Gaspee to the waterline.

Except that could be seen as a common action of looters in those times. Doesn't quite compare to this;
