America First Refining announced a historic milestone in U.S. energy production: the construction of the first new oil refinery built in the United States in 50 years. Made possible through the leadership of President Donald J. Trump and the success of his America First energy agenda, the refinery will be located at the Port of Brownsville, Texas, and will significantly strengthen America's long-term energy dominance.

See President Trump's announcement on X here:

In February, America First Refining received a 9-figure investment from a global supermajor at a 10-figure valuation. AFR also signed a binding 20-year offtake term sheet with the same global supermajor that secures commitments to purchase, process, and distribute American-produced energy exclusively sourced from American shale oil. The company will officially break ground on the new refinery in Q2 2026.

"This project represents a historic step forward for American energy production," said John V. Calce, Chairman and Founder of America First Refining. "For the first time in half a century, the United States will build a new refinery designed specifically for American shale oil. Thanks to President Trump's leadership and the resurgence of an America First energy policy, we are creating thousands of high-quality jobs while ensuring more of our nation's energy resources are refined here at home in the cleanest, most efficient refinery on the planet."

"This is one of the most important energy infrastructure projects in America today," said Trey Griggs, President of America First Refining. "The United States has a surplus of light shale oil but a shortage of refining capacity designed to process it. By building this refinery at the Port of Brownsville, we're unlocking a major expansion of American energy production while creating thousands of high-paying jobs and strengthening our domestic supply chain."

"For years, investors believed building a new refinery in the United States was impossible," said Nick Ayers, a former White House official who served as Assistant to the President and incoming Vice Chairman of America First Refining. "What changed was leadership and policy. President Trump's America First energy agenda restored the confidence needed to invest in large-scale American energy infrastructure. This project is a bet on American production, American workers, and the long-term strength of our domestic energy economy."

A Landmark Energy Agreement – the Largest Energy Deal in U.S. History

Under the newly signed agreement:

• 1.2 billion barrels of U.S. light shale oil will be purchased and processed — a value of $125 billion
• AFR will produce 50 billion gallons of refined products — a value of $175 billion
• The U.S. trade imbalance will improve by $300 billion

...

One New refinery in TX, while two close in CA.

  • Phillips 66's Los Angeles refinery announced its closure last year. Valero's Oil refinery in Benicia is set to close in April.
  • Chevron executives say California cannot afford to lose more refineries.
  • The average price for regular gas in California is $4.81.

<Good luck living near that dirty stuff.

Nobody wants refining, though we need it badly and I don't believe Trump gets any credit.

Not in TX. No worries.
Actually Texas too. Thats why new refiner capacity is typically rebuilds and expansions of existing footprints.

A genuine greenfield refinery is a real achievement. Good for them.

<~~~~~~~~~~>
Every rime a oil refinery closes in California fuel prices increase in the state.
Diesel is $7.00 and gasoline is over $5.00/gal now and Gavin is blaming Chevron and everyone but himself.
as of March 11, 2026, gas prices in California have not only neared but surpassed the $5.00/gal mark, with the statewide average reaching approximately $5.336 for regular unleaded gasoline
While the average is lower, certain stations in major hubs like Los Angeles and the Bay Area are reporting diesel prices between $7.19 and $7.29 per gallon.

It's about f****** time ..... we need 9 more

$175B/50B= $3.50 each.
Better tell the workers to not sign a mortgage if what you’re producing is worth $3.50.
The can-do attitude is why people came her to settle. You Progs extruded that from the anuses of the general populace. We need more refineries and more nuclear power plants. That is the real inconvenient truth.

Actually Texas too. Thats why new refiner capacity is typically rebuilds and expansions of existing footprints.

They have done that for decades, always to avoid having to comply with environmental regulations for new plants. The coal fired power plants played the same game.

Trump has abrogated environmental regulations to permit this.

It is being financed by Indian interests, and the heavy crude refined there will be exported to India.

The interesting part if that India doesn't have oil. Where is the oil coming from?

Fracking supposedly.

The reason you haven’t had a refinery built in the last 50 years is because any time you increase the supply of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, you lower the price the sellers can charge to consumers, trucking firms, and airlines. If it made sense to increase refining capacity...they would have done it.

Shockingly, Chevron, Exxon, Texaco, Shell, and BP don’t really give a damn about their consumers having to pay more.

I’m not sure who these Indians are but it may lower some prices. Where the crude will come from and if the gasoline stays in the US are open questions. The market models, thus far, are pointing to exploiting overseas markets.
