AMD stock set to soar after Aug 5?

/-----/ I made $4,500 on 200 shares and sold out when the news broke after hours.

Great work …I’m hanging on to my AMD and super micro computer stock(down 20% last 24 hours) for at least five years. Sticking with my plan through the ups and downs. I’m still up about 30% on both stocks.

/----/ I was making $$$$$$$$$$ on SMCI when it was trading 200 points a day. What a wild ride. It died when they split the stock. I now only trade 100 shares in puts or covered calls.

/---/ An explanation of the AMD selloff.

Key Takeaways

  • Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices on Tuesday reported better-than-anticipated quarterly sales and offered a rosy outlook for the current quarter.
  • Shares, which rose nearly 80% in the months leading up to Tuesday's report, slid on Wednesday despite the results.
  • Analysts at Bank of America and Wedbush see potential upside from chip sales to China in the second half, assuming tensions between the U.S. and China don't flare up amid trade negotiations.

This is certainly the risk with increased tariffs or penalties on China or a dip in relations between the USA and China. Or any issue in general that might affect the chip market. These seem to be short-term trends instead of something long-term though.

It looks like the AMD stock bottomed out around 158 today but then has gone up to about 163 which is good. Hopefully the bleeding is over for now. Heck it might even be a buying opportunity especially for super micro computer

As I said earlier This one’s a long play for me. Minimal 5 year plan.

/----/ You need to look at an AMD ETF (AMUU). You control more shares with less cost.
If one believes in AMV that probably makes sense. Especially if you’re holding it for multiple years. I’m not totally up-to-date on how leveraged funds works. One thing I wanna know is if you are in a leveraged fund and the original stock loses 50% …does that mean you lose everything without the chance to come back?

Anyway, I already have a 2X leverage fund with micro strategy. I feel like one is enough.

/----/ I have many leveraged ETFs including a 3x TNA. I'm just putting it out there for you.

Well Amd is currently trading around $159 a share. Perhaps a slight discount and Good time to buy?
Luckyone did you get in on this one?

I think my average cost is around 130 per share… but I’m sticking to my five-year plan with this one. We will see what happens. Have you had one stock this year that’s made at least 20%?

I know earlier this year you claimed The markets would perform poorly under Trump … yet you still recommended some stocks to people.

I purchased FSLR at 120.37 in April 5 weeks later I got out at 194.67. It was a 38% profit.

I have also shorted 2 stocks (IBM and TXN) that gave me around a 12% profit each in less than 3 weeks.

Well August 5 is a big day for AMD as they release their earning report. Some in the industry are expecting the stock to sore after what will hopefully be a positive Aug 5 report. It’s already up notably in the past few days with regards to anticipation of that report. Folks are saying this could be the next Nvidia.

I’m in on AMD…. I purchased shares for about $104 a share a few months ago and recently got more shares at about $167 A share.

I don't have any but they steadily chip away at intel ...which is a hot mess

First computer I built was and AMD athlon, it ran so damn hot and they did not give you a heatsink/fan I had to buy aftermarket, hell I bought this after market 60mm to 80mm duct and put a delta on it that was a jet engine

Never went AMD again, intel has been good for me, did built my brother an A10 system years ago, GPU was better than intel, still works at 14 years but I built him a newer intel system 4 years ago which runs circles.......as it should

I like AMD because they were always the underdog, without them intel gets lazy so they are needed

never use an ATI/AMD GPU, nvidia since day one

As a youngster, I built some of my gaming computers about 20 years ago. And I are always remember AMD was generally not the go to product.

But recently AMD has put out some products for businesses and data centers that could be very profitable. It’s part of the reason among others that some of the analysts are saying that within five years we could be seeing AMD stock go for $1000 a share.
