It strikes me that Mr Lane would have been a big star back in the day but now he is best known as the voice of Mr Ed.Its a shame. Back in the day actors could make a living playing westerns and many went on to better things. John Wayne being one of them.

I think we have lost out. An important sub culture has been lost.. Movie westerns morphed into tv westerns. Actors still made a living.

They still make westerns but in all honesty they are pretty shit. If Kevin Sorbo or Trace Adkins were acting in my garden I would pull the curtains.

Why is that ? Its not the money. The original b movies were made on a shoestring. I think the expertise has been lost and the actors and technicians just arent around any more. America has lost something special.

This film is a good example. Its on youtube now and the only actor I recognise is Raymond Burr who went on to play Ironside.

The novel gives the girl a bigger role but the film version is a straight forward goodies vs baddies story. We need more of them.

despite all the movies he made, westerns and otherwise, this is in his IMDB Bio:

"Eddy Waller, Allan Lane's sidekick in almost every one of his Republic films, was one of only three people--besides the minister and funeral director--who attended Lane's funeral."

Its incredibly sad. Over here there re regular funerals for veterans with out families,. The funeral directors advertise it on the local TV and press. The church get mobbed by people who want to give him a good send off.

won't be anyone at mine. no funeral scheduled, Wife may have a remembrance ceremony, but that will be after I've taken my last swim. Don't expect many to show at one anyway. Blood family is 1,000 miles away, wife's family is spread over 3 states.
