This is a pretty interesting documentary if you are a fan of Charlie Sheen, which I was in the 80's and 90's, even though I never watched him on television, he was made the highest paid television actor in history at that time. All of his films did very well, and all of this was happening as he was heavily addicted to alcohol and drugs. I was hoping there would not be any graphic descriptions of his indulgence, and thankfully, there are not. They got it right. You see his childhood, and you learn how he grew up on the set of movies his father made. He was in the Phillipines, on the set of Apocalypse Now, which ended up taking 3 years to complete.
It is two parts, 3 hours in total. You learn a lot about him from both his ex wives, one of which is still working on her addiction. His oldest brother is interviewed, no other family members took part. It isn't until the last 20 minutes that he discusses how he got AIDS, and hearing how he was taking testosterone injections and was 5x what is normal, his appetite for sex took him to, as he calls it, "the other side of the menu". Then there is his whole blow up and "winning" persona after being released from television, and his ever increasing addiction.
Sheen has no impulse control, but he also starred in a lot of good movies, and seems like a pretty likable person overall. He grew up with Sean Penn and George Clooney, he was born to be an actor. No matter how hard his family tried, they could not help him. Nicholas Cage and himself, both in a ton of movies, were often together and both trying to outdo the other with drugs and booze.
