To go a little further with this.

I have often run across people who will make the statement, "I speak my mind and I don't care who likes it."

This is the statement of a sociopath. This person intentionally disregards, or lacks the filter in the brain that alters what is thought and what is communicated.

I liken it to a person who gets angry at another, and in the moment of intense anger, considers killing them for their actions or words. The filter that normal people have is one in which the thought may momentarily occur, and then gets filtered out to a more appropriate response, such as choice to ignore that person.

I find people who lack this filter dangerous to the people around them because it is a very short step from saying whatever you like, whenever you like to say it, to pulling a gun and shooting someone for having the audacity to disagree with you.

It has become a much more common trait in our society in the past 25 years than it ever was before.
