My wife and I are going on a cruise with another couple this fall to St. Kitts, San Jaun and Puerto Plata in November. The other couple have done cruises recently but not to these locations. Cruise is all set and booked.

Anybody out there have any good travel tips?

Don't drink the water.

Can't. besides this trip is for my wife who nursed me back from death's door several times in the past 5 years. I am finally healthy enough to go.

Ya, know I was kidding right?

You treat that wife right, I'm sure she's earned a little trip.

My wife retired in FEB, I'm looking at NOV. We hope to take the Alaska Boat/Rail trip next year.

Married going on 38 years and they were the happiest 3 years of my life.

I’ve been on about 15 cruises, many to the Carribbean.

AMA!

Also, which cruise line?

Some tips off the top of my head:
  • If you’re departing from a port you fly into, come in the day before.
  • When you book your cabin, make sure you’re not underneath a nightclub, the pool deck, or anywhere noisy.
  • Bring a hat. That sun is strong!
  • If you venture off on your own to explore a port, leave plenty of time to get back to the ship before departure. I’d plan on a 30-minute cushion.
  • The ship’s excursions are overpriced, but at least you know if there’s a delay, the ship will wait.

Do not choose Carnival cruise lines... stay away from the cheap deals because you will be cruising with cheap people....

Stay away from the Bermuda Triangle, and watch out for pirates.

That's all I have for now.

We have been married 42 years and I was at sea for about 4 years of that day-for-day. So I have been happy about 38 of those, give or take a year.

If our money and health holds out we may try Alaska next year. Our friends have indicated they might try that too!

Been on many cruises.
First off set your watch by ship time. Do not go off local time. If you are late to the ship they will not wait. One couple found this out the hard way on one of our cruises.
Second be prepared for the help not to be very good if tip is included with the price of the ticket. You get better help when the tip is at the end of the cruise.
Third be prepared for long waites getting off the ship especially if the do not dock at a pier.
As has already been stated stay away from the loud parts of the ship.
Last but not least enjoy yourself. Yes some of the off board things are expensive but if you feel you would enjoy them go for it. Remember you will only be doing this once in that area.

Be prepared to put on at least 5 pounds.
I remember one cruise we were on the MC claimed we walk on they would roll us off. He then listed all the meals such as breakfast buffet, followed by breakfast on deck eight, etc. took a good ten minutes. Ended by saying order room service after the midnight buffet.😂

I went on a Celebrity cruise a couple of years ago. Of the mainstream cruises I’ve been on - Royal Carribbean, Princess, NCL, and Holland America - Celebrity was my favorite.
Thanks! That is the vibe I have been getting also. I appreciate your taking the time to answer my query!

You’re welcome.

Any chance you’re in Aqua Class? That entitles you to a private dining room where I found the food and service to be equivalent to a luxury restaurant.

But if you’re in a “regular” cabin, no worries. I wanted to check out the regular dining room and went there for dinner one evening. I found it very enjoyable as well.

Do you mind telling me which ship you’re on?

I can't. I am diabetic and take Ozempic. I had a hard time downing a regular-sized burger at lunch today. I will probably eat small twice a day.
I don’t know much about diabetes (a good thing, for me!), but I understand there can be problems with circulation to the feet. On my cruises, I found my feet and ankles really swelled up due to how much salt they use. Not sure if this would be a concern for you, but wanted to mention it.

I don't have those issues since I have (as the doctor's described) a perfect liver. Now that they have ironed out a slight transplant "fit" problem, I should be good to go. Liver working perfectly according to my checkup this morning.

We have a limitless veranda stateroom on the 6th deck next door to our friends. When we booked there were three rooms left and we got two side-by-side.
