A couple years ago there was an aviation show in an air museum next to John Wayne airport. They had brought in a B-24, a B-17, and a P-51. We were allowed to go through the bombers from tail to fuselage. Tight fit , and these guys had to do it in flight while being shot at. I put myself in their place and thinking what bravery just to go on bombing raids. So many went on missions and never came back, especially before fighter planes started escorting them. Lots of respect for what those guys in WW2 did. After the show you could take a ride on the bombers, they took off from the airport next door, but the price was around $500. A little steep for my pocketbook.

At two different periods those B25's came over and strafed our infantry columns. We had casualties and vowed next time to shoot back. But that was it. For close air support I appreciated Marine aviation. At times their dive bombers always seemed to be circling overhead ready to give us, the army, close air support. Thank you, VMSB-244.
