  • Administration targets poor-performing employees
  • Administration says those who do not take offer could still lose their jobs
  • Labor unions warn buyout offer may lack authority or funds
Feb 6 (Reuters) - A U.S. judge on Thursday temporarily blocked the Trump administration's proposed buyout for federal workers until at least Monday, giving an initial win to labor unions that sued to stop it.
Even as the program was stayed, more than 60,000 federal employees have already accepted the buyout offer, a White House source told Reuters.

Once these cases get to the Supreme Court, the grown-ups rule that, of course the president has the power to operate the executive branch, since it is “vested in a president of the United States.”

This amount to an incredible savings that will be realized before the end of this calendar year. I’m glad that the deadline was extended.

I have to admit this is a life-changing move for these folks. They had these lucrative sinecures for decades, some of them. Even the ones who have only been doing it for a few years have gotten used to the telework, the oversized salaries, and the generous benefits that those who work to pay for all those things could only dream of.

I wish them all good luck in adjusting to the private sector, and particularly higher expectations and the workload involved.

Government is a bloated mess. 60k won't even be missed

Rumor is that if congress agrees to fund the buyout many more will opt out.

They don't believe that Trump has the money to fund the buyout.

Another Trump mad idea blows up in his face.
What a gift to the rest of the world if the establishment allows Trump to get away with the idea! Ya just can't make this shit up!

I know several that have taken it. Mostly those close to retirement so they get a free 8 months of full pay.

They're pretty sure that trump won't pay them. Congress would.

Why would it cost anything? We are already planning to pay them for the next eight months even if they don’t quit.

Mandatory terminations that will Come after all the smart people have taken the deal will be even cheaper.
