Even as the program was stayed, more than 60,000 federal employees have already accepted the buyout offer, a White House source told Reuters.
Once these cases get to the Supreme Court, the grown-ups rule that, of course the president has the power to operate the executive branch, since it is “vested in a president of the United States.”
This amount to an incredible savings that will be realized before the end of this calendar year. I’m glad that the deadline was extended.
I have to admit this is a life-changing move for these folks. They had these lucrative sinecures for decades, some of them. Even the ones who have only been doing it for a few years have gotten used to the telework, the oversized salaries, and the generous benefits that those who work to pay for all those things could only dream of.
I wish them all good luck in adjusting to the private sector, and particularly higher expectations and the workload involved.
