4. This is true
5. Reagan was absolved of any wrongdoing in the Iran Contra affair. False.
6. This is true.
7. This is true, but the initiative failed miserably, sanctions on employers for hiring them were stripped out of the 1986 bill in order for it to pass.
8. Wrong. In 1986 he was quoted as saying, "Our trade policy rests firmly on the foundation of free and open markets. I recognize . . . the inescapable conclusion that all of history has taught: The freer the flow of world trade, the stronger the tides of human progress and peace among nations."
9. He did, when he was still a Liberal, it was well known he didn't push a pro life agenda while he was president. But he later came to deeply regret signing such a bill, as he later mentioned in a letter to Henry Hyde in 1976:
"The only circumstance under which I felt [abortion] could be justified was self-defense, a concept deeply rooted in our laws and traditions. If a mother’s life is endangered by her own unborn child, she has a right to protect her life. I do not believe, however, that abortion of a less-than-perfect child, or abortion for convenience sake or abortion because “a mistake” has been made can be justified.
The bill I signed followed the self-defense concept. As time was to prove, however, it contained one flaw. The self-defense concept also included a provision in cases where a motherÂ’s mental health might be irreparably damaged. This required professional certification, but as we were to learn, it became subject to very liberal interpretation by some psychiatrists to justify abortions that should not have been made."
Before his re-election in 1983, Reagan made comments against abortionists in his article in
The Human Life Review
“Make no mistake, abortion-on-demand is not a right granted by the Constitution.” Roe was an act of “raw judicial power,” Reagan said, comparable to Dred Scott: “This is not the first time our country has been divided by a Supreme Court decision that denied the value of certain human lives.”
“The abortionist who reassembles the arms and legs of a tiny baby to make sure all its parts have been torn from its mother’s body can hardly doubt whether it is a human being.”
The idea he was pro-choice is patently false.
10. This is true.
