Washington – Business Roundtable today (Feb 2022) released a new study updating previous research that finds 41.5 million—one in five—jobs in the United States depended on international trade in 2019 before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study updates previous work from the Roundtable in 2020 [/quote]

Trump is being interviewed on Bloomberg TV right now (Oct 15th 2024 1:00pm). He is reiterating his plan on raising tariffs on all nations to the point that no one will be able to sell stuff to us unless they open factories here in the U.S. Trump said "Tariff is my favorite word". That means that many (if not most) of those jobs will be lost if he gets reelected,

Trump is also denigrating anyone and everyone that disagrees with him. He is denigrating companies such as the Wall Street Journal (saying they have no idea of what they are doing or saying).

He is being shown what the consequences of his actions would be (increased debt, higher inflation, unemployment increasing strongly, companies going bankrupt, etc.) and he is dismissing them as if they are all fantasies.

He truly believes that only he knows what is right. That everyone else is an idiot. That anyone that disagrees with him is ignorant. The press is corrupt, the Democrats are enemies, economic experts don't know anything, etc. Only HE is knows what is right,

Funny hypocrisy that he just said when he criticized how some companies take advantage by raising prices. He used the example that when he took the presidency, Boeing came over with building an Air Force 1 plane for $5.7 billion. Trump thought it was too expensive and refused it, saying he would not pay more that $3+ billion for it. A few months later, the owner of the company said he would build it for $4 billion. Trump used that example of his ability to control excessive pricing. Nonetheless, Trump himself is selling a watch for $100,000, he is selling bibles that he buys for $3 and he sells them for $60, etc., etc., etc.

This man is mentally sick and like I have said before, he has made many mistakes in his life and he has never acknowledged his mistakes so that he could change and fix them. He is highly likely to make some huge mistakes that will be disastrous to our economy, our employment and our inflation and he is unlikely to acknowledge them and as such, will not fix or change them even if they are causing harm.

Our nation will suffer greatly and will be changed negatively forever. If he gets elected, you will see the end of the U.S. empire.

Other countries of the world are paying their workers MUCH less than the US. This alone results in trade imbalances. Then we have currency manipulation which only tilts the playing field against the US more. The only recourse the US has as the No. 1 consumer nation in the world is tariffs. They work and anyone who can see beyond the end of their own nose is aware of these realities. 5 Countries with the Highest Consumer Spending in the World

Here is the interview (all of it)

This video is more than 2 hours long but the interview was only about 1 hour. The interview itself starts at the 1 hour and 19 minute mark of the video. Here you will be able to see exactly what was asked and how Trump reported. As is usual, Trump did not directly address the questions asked and he also did not let the interviewer speak.

Trump is the Frankenstein monster created by decades of mismanagement by Washington.

Yep. Trump's tariffs did create problems for a few folks in his last administration, but his policies accomplished and helped thousands more people than each of those they marginally hurt. We can pretend that China isn't manipulating our economy and currency, but the smart money says Trump is mostly or completely accurate about that. The reason the establishment hates him so much is because he showed them up, proved them wrong, got things done they said couldn't be done, achieved goals they lacked the courage to even try.

Other countries criticize Trump mostly because he resists America being their dependable sugar daddy, he expects them to do their fair share for the common good, and he works to make America less dependent on them.

And pretty much everything in America is dependent on trade because despite massive natural resources, there are some things we need from other countries because we don't produce enough or don't produce them at all. And until we are able to bring back manufacturing to America so that we can make most of the things and products we need here--a huge goal of President Trump--we are dependent on those other countries that now make most or all of the stuff we use.

Importers pass the tariff fee onto their customers.
The fees are paid to the government.

Tariff's only work if they discourage imports and encourage domestic production. However, many imports are still cheaper even after tariffs are applied. But even if consumers pay less imports exacerbate our trade deficit.

You truly are blind-by-choice. The tariffs helped no one. The tariffs hurt our companies to the tune of billions in lost revenue. It increased our deficit and caused a decrease in production and profits for us.

Trump’s Tariffs Were Much More Damaging Than Thought

You say that the establishment hates his because he proved them wrong? Total BS. They hate him because he caused unnecessary problems and losses.

...who is responsible for the debt that is incurred due to the trade imbalance. The higher prices also discourage the purchase of that product.
In most cases tariffs don't reduce foreign trade, they just increase the cost to the importer and the consumer.
