The Internet. Inconceivably huge amounts of knowledge can easily be accessed and exchanged by anyone with a computer and a connection.

Im not very keen in history nor geography so I can only focus on the "western world" and say that, I personally think the best achievement of the 20th century is the right to vote given to women.
