March 2014 marked the first time in more than a decade that there were zero U.S. fatalities among American troops engaging in combat, according to numbers from the Department of Defense.
After a decade at war in the post-9/11 environment, with major wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and smaller conflicts in the various other countries where the U.S. uses more covert methods to fight against terrorism, the lack of combat deaths in March 2014 marks a milestone. In Iraq, the death toll reached 4,474 before the last soldier fell in November 2011. For years after the war’s launch in 2003, no months passed where at least one American didn’t die in battle and then only towards the end of the conflict did the numbers taper off enough to have a month where the only fatalities were non-combat related.

How many trillions more will it cost taking care of those sent to Iraq? What a tragedy for our nation. What a terrible waste. And what did we get for it?

From December:

Spike in battlefield deaths linked to restrictive rules of engagement - Washington Times

“It is no accident nor a coincidence that from January 2009 to August of 2010, coinciding with the Obama/McChrystal radical change of the [rules of engagement], casualties more than doubled,” Mr. Simmons said. “The carnage will certainly continue as the already fragile and ineffective [rules] have been further weakened by the Obama administration as if they were playground rules.”

Afghanistan was home base from where Americans were attacked. The GOP fucked that war up so bad even Obama couldn't save it.

You would think Republicans would be thrilled with this news.

Democrats voted for Troops on the ground in Iraq and then they undermined the mission for the next six or seven years. That's the damn tragedy. The tragedy of Korea and Vietnam will tell you that democrats can't stand the thought of victory on the battlefield.
