A more accurate headline: Senate Dems allow progressive-run cities to keep breaking federal law

This story everywhere will be reported as “Dems block anti-sanctuary city bill,” but a more honest and accurate version is “Senate Dems vote to allow progressive leaders of big cities to keep breaking federal law without consequence”:
Senate Democrats blocked legislation Tuesday that would crack down on local governments that refuse to fully cooperate with federal immigration authorities in order to protect illegal immigrants from deportation.
The bill targeting so-called “sanctuary cities” failed in a 54 to 45 procedural vote. Sixty votes were necessary to advance the bill, which would block such jurisdictions from collecting some federal grants and would toughen criminal sentences for illegal immigrants who are convicted of a serious crime after being repeatedly deported.
In San Francisco this past summer, Kathryn Steinle was shot and killed by a five-time deportee who admitted he chose San Francisco because of its friendliness to violators of federal immigration law. However, congressional Dems keep demonstrating that their priorities are elsewhere.
Naturally lefties like Bill de Blasio are thrilled:
