Ironically if there is a new trend of increasing sea ice cover that extends longer into summer, for the next few years, Polar Bear population might begin to decline.

Thick Spring Sea ice cover is actually unfavorable to the white bear boys, since it will be harder for the seals to make those blow holes through the much thicker ice that P. Bears sit on to catch them.

Since they eat up most of their calories for the year by late June, thick spring ice will force them to eat later into the summer, which by then the seals will have moved off, contributing increased difficulties in getting enough food for the current large population.
