Since I love 80s music (and 70s, and 60s, but those are other threads) I want to hear what everyone thinks are the essentials 80s songs for an Ipod list, with youtube links to the songs natch, so i can clip them and add them to my pod. ;)

True. He knew most voters could not get past the "I was born in the USA" lyric.

I must admit I did not vote for him in 1984, I was such a sober moron at the time, so I waited in the freezing cold to vote for Walter Mondale; now that is democracy comitment!

Hey I believed it at the time.

I was wrong.

Reagan was such a genius (by which I mean he had a viceral understanding of the American pulse, it's soul, and he could make you feel it, really believe in it again after the pessimism of the 70s) that he lured his opponents into thinking him dumb.

And then he won, and won.

Not just elections, but a Cold War too.
