I don't have the sort of lock-step belief system you describe, bucs, but I am prolly more liberal than conservative...certainly I am socially. To me, your question sounds like "if most people had more/enough, would you accept set backs for certain unpopular groups"?

I'll admit I am fortunate and I don't fear hunger or homelessness, etc., and mebbe if I did my answer would change. But at this time, no. I could not accept progress than was paid for by the suffering of others.

I'm not quite convinced of my answer yet. I place my faith and ability to provide for my family as my #1 priorities, so bending on my beliefs on how society as a whole should function in order to provide better lives for my family is quite tempting.

I liked Clinton. Above all, he was smart enough to cooperate with a Republican congress and played the dot com economic burst brilliantly. My only real gripe with Clinton was he could've handled WTC bombing in 93 better, and he should've taken out Bin Laden when CIA had the chance to do it. Now, of course in fairness, thats in hindsight of what Bin Laden would do later and all, but that was my main gripe with him. And the border, which I've griped about with every president.

I'd vote for Clinton over Bush right now though. And Clinton or Bush over Obama.

A good economy + freedom creates great presidents. Obama was right about something when he said people "cling to their guns and religion" when times are tough. When the economy is great, and people are basically free to live their lives, there isn't that much a prez can do wrong..............except get BJ's from an intern

By the end of the Presidency, I didn't think he was so bad.

By the middle of Bush 43, I wished we could have Clinton back.

There is no opposite party for me. Both the dems and the reps are the two most corrupt parties in the history of our nation. We need a third party but won't get one as long as people continue to believe that their are only two parties and especially that they are "opposites".

If God came down today, and said he would fix the US economy permanently, but we would have to allow our borders to remain open and legalize gay marriage, I'd compromise that.
