Winners and Losers of 2009

What part of simple logic do you not understand? The GOP members of Congress have NO POWER! That means it doesn't matter what they say or do, they have NO POWER! If you're not in the game, how can you lose?

Can you say "John Ensign"? How about "Mark Sanford"? "Joe Wilson"?

I can not only say those names, I can also say Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

Strange...I don't recall either one of those people using taxpayer dollars to "hike the Appalachian Trail"....

Do you think no party has ever been out of power before? How much did they accomplish by trying to obstruct every piece of legislation? We faced an impending economic meltdown early in 2009 and rather than say "How can we help?" the GOP chose to say "How can we prevent you from succeeding?"

:cuckoo:

Get this through your thick skull: IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THEY SAY OR DO. THEY HAVE NO POWER!

Jeez.

How much power/influence they have is entirely up to them. They have been given the opportunity to participate in government and have been elected to do so. If they CHOOSE to just sit in the corner holding their breath, it's THEIR choice. And maybe that's why so many people think they are such losers.

Who were the Republican winners of 2009??

Anyone?? anyone?

Other parties have been out of power in the past and managed to influence legislation. The GOP chose to use block voting to gridlock legislation and prevent critical bills from succeeding. The decision to be obstructionist will haunt the GOP
Idiot.

RW's words are true. Why would you call him an idiot? For pointing out the obvious?

Uh, no. Not true. They've had no power to block anything. And if there is a misperception that they have been obstructionists, this will most likely work in their favor since the Democrats are pushing legislation through that is not supported by the majority of their constituents.

Sit in the corner? They've been voting against big-government legislation. Of course, they have no power to effect the outcome, but they haven't just been sitting in the corner. And the closed-door meetings the Democrats and Obama have indicates that bipartisanship is dead. The power and influence the GOP will have is now entirely up to the Democrats.

Chris Christie, Gov NJ

Bob McDonnell, Gov VA

Rob Astorino, Westchester County Executive (went, now get this 27% to Bomammy in 08, yes Obama won by 27%)

Ed Mangano, Nassau County Executive (went 7% for Obammy in 08)

Yup - sit in the corner. They've been invited repeatedly to participate in the formation of legislation. They've taken the position that if tyhey can't get everything they want into the legislation, then they will not participate - they'll just sit over in the corner whining and making up false statements to make about the legislation.

Americans aren't fooled. They really want to support Republicans in order to create yet another check and balance in government. But the GOP's little hissy fits are just not allowing them to.

The GOP should be able to make considerable gains in 2010 and perhaps even win a senate majority. But they are so busy whining and moaning that they've already LOST a seat they held for 150 years.

They need to get their crap together if they want to make use of the advantage that historically goes to the minority party in off-year elections.

oh yeah - I forgot - and for helping the party that nominated her for VP LOSE a seat they've held for about 150 years - LOL.

Wow!

Digging kinda deep there aren't we?

Christie and McDonnell were winners at the state level but have no national impact. When you have to dig out County Executives it must be a horrible year for Republicans

ScuzzaLibrul would have been a loss for us, so short of winning the seat outright like we will next time, this was good for us and the USA

Actually Sarah Palin. A winner for herself not the country.

And for pointing out a Conservative Candidate in NY 23 who came within the MOE of defeating the Dems and Republicans

Actually, Palin lost that one.

She gave up a sure Republican victory to hand over a 150 year Republican seat to the Democrats.

Shrewd political move there

LOL - sure wasn't good for Republicans - you remember - the folks who handed her the spotlight. Biting the hand that fed you is typically not a good political strategy.

Was it good for America? I guess you can say that it was good if you want to see a Democratic Majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.

A party with only 40% of the seats in Congress needs every vote they can get. Chasing a way a candidate with an (R) next to her name because she supports gay rights is short sighted
