GOP lawmakers change tune on costly health plans | Richmond Times-Dispatch

Some Republicans say they don’t believe the CBO’s projections that the health care overhaul will pay for itself. As for their newfound worries about big government health expansions, they essentially say: That was then, this is now.

Six years ago, “it was standard practice not to pay for things,“ said Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah. “We were concerned about it, because it certainly added to the deficit, no question.“ His 2003 vote has been vindicated, Hatch said, because the prescription drug benefit “has done a lot of good.“

The only government program that ever paid for itself was the recovery of the crashed alien ship in Roswell, it gave us fiber optics, superconductivity, microprocessors and most our technological advances of the past 50 years

So.....are the Republicans simply playing party line politics?

I voted Republican once in my life and that was this past election for County Executive.

Republicans know that the country won't tolerate and can no longer afford Socialism, they know Conservatism is on the rise so like they learned in NY-23, they have to accommodate the voters or watch their career end

Was it not too long ago when Republicans touted the CBO as Scripture when it reported what they wanted to hear?

And this was just a few mere months ago...

What happened?

EXACTLY - which proves beyond any shadow of a doubt that they are just playing politics and don't mind playing fast and loose with the facts to do it.

They refuse facts that would force them to give up their failed ideas.

They crashed the economy with their wars for oil built on lies and their tax cuts and still think they are great ideas.

No facts in and same failed ideas still sound good, brain remains happy and asleep.

And according to the CBO, it will not.

And if the CBO told you wolverines made great house pets would you believe them?

How come the CBO is a good enough source when it fits the GOP agenda?

That works both ways...last month the Dems were claiming the CMO numbers were bogus.

Obama called the Director of the CBO into the White House to chastise him.

Republicans on Wednesday criticized as inappropriate a meeting President Obama held Monday with the director of the Congressional Budget Office, Douglas Elmendorf.

Elmendorf, a Democratic appointee, has been a thorn in the side of President Obama and congressional Democrats for the way he has analyzed health care reform legislation.

In their view, Elmendorf hasn’t sufficiently given their health care reform proposals enough credit for cutting costs – which has caused them political problems in getting the legislation passed.

Last week, frustrated at one analysis by Elmendorf, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., snapped, "what he should do is maybe run for Congress.”

Thank you for admitting that the GOP is simply playing party line games with our health insurance...

Thank you for trying to put words in my mouth.

What I clearly said was after Obama called the umpire to the owners box, the officiating is much more to his liking.

I am not putting words into your mouth. I am simply reading between the lines and stating what you are obviously not willing to.

Many others were at that meeting a nd they all said it was about ideas of how to reduce costs and not a downdressing of the CBO.

Yes, but THAT information does not fit the GOP agenda, so they simply ignore it. See how this game works now?

If the GOP could raise legitimate questions about legitimate issues, I'd be inclined to listen to them a whole heck of a lot more. But because I refuse to indulge these flights of fantasy - I have nothing to listen to 90% of the time when a Republican opens his/her mouth.

It's just sad.
