An example, a decision by The Subway Sandwich chain to go Halal in many of their stores in one nation-member of The European Union:

We in the UK will once again vote with our wallets and not use the shops that are pamdering to islam. Another big chain did the same thing a few years back and nearly went bust when people stopped using ALL their shops. I can see Subway closing in Islamic areas as the few muslims that would use them would not be enough to keep the shops open. I can see it now when a customer goes in and queues for 20 minutes only to find they no longer do their favourite turkey and ham on granary 12" with all the trimmings. The uproar when not a single muslim has been in since the ban took place.

I see this as an opportunity for some enterprising restaurant entrepreneur to start a chain of sandwich shops called McPork. In the meantime, those who live in the NYC area and wish to enjoy any kind of pork products can choose between a number of excellent German restaurants and butcher shops -- including the one that once belonged to my uncle Peter.
