This actually is a serious question posited for serious reasons.

America and perhaps Britain have been the icons of world culture for quite a while now. What can I say, when it comes to being hip, cool and letting it all hang out we rock!

The world drools over every trend, fad and genre we dish out. Even rap. Of course we stole most of our culture from the world and recycled it but that's not the point. WE are the melting pot, they are the fondue, or something like that.

So will our music last, maybe 20-30 years? Will drum kits and electric guitars be the standard backbone of popular music, world wide, decades from now? Will Jazz survive? Thrive? Or dwindle away?

What about when the center of the world's power shifts toward the developing nations? Will they adopt our basic instrumental formats and back beat 4 and 3 chord progressions or will they take popular music someplace else entirely. Different instrumentation, different time sigs?

I have a really significant reason for asking these questions but you will never guess what it is.

But I do value your opinion, you just might be prophetic.

Music keeps moving on.
the big band era, etc.
Yes rock as we oldsters know it will pretty much go away.
Maybe another 10-15 years.
