Probe Mentioned In 2007 Bush Administration Memo

WASHINGTON — A briefing paper prepared for Attorney General Michael Mukasey during the Bush administration in 2007 outlined failed attempts by federal agents to track illicitly purchased guns across the border into Mexico and stressed the need for U.S. and Mexican law enforcement officials to work together on such efforts using a tactic that now is generating controversy.

Carroll's email did not elaborate, but a month ago, Justice Department documents released in the probe of Fast and Furious disclosed the first of two Bush-era probes, Operation Wide Receiver, which was carried out by ATF's Tucson, Ariz., office beginning in 2006. In it, several hundred weapons wound up in the hands of arms traffickers.

Shouldn't we be using the probe on Bush also?:eusa_whistle:

The program also STOPPED under Bush. You see dumb ass they worked with the Mexican Government and when the Mexican Government told them they could not track the guns in Mexico the program was halted after about 400 guns were lost.

Fast and Furious did not even tell the Mexican Government what they were doing. They did not track the weapons in the States and they made no effort to arrest the buyers. In fact the 2 men they did arrest were under protection from another US agency.

Getting the point yet dumb fuck? Under Bush they tried to track guns into Mexico with the cooperation and help of Mexican Government after 400 guns walked the Mexican Government told the US they could not track the weapons so the program was PERMANENTLY shut down. fast forward to 2009 the same office that already KNEW the program did not work with Mexican help did it again this times 5 times bigger and with no notification to the Mexicans at all.

As I understand it in the original program some of the weapons were fitted with GPS and still lost. Under Fast and Furious no such effort was made.

Also under Bush we know of the program because no one DENIED they started it lead it conducted it or ordered it shut down. Under Holder no one admits to knowing why a program that already failed with Mexican Cooperation was restarted with no help from Mexico and was carried out for over a year with no results. Well except 2000 guns going to cartels.

Holder denies he knew about it. No o0ne in Justice admits they ordered it started again. Even though we have an E- Mail that clearly shows not only did Holder know he was involved.

Further we have a motive for why the guns were allowed to walk. The list of weapons allowed to walk under the program was given to the FBI and they were told by Mexican authorities many of those guns were recovered in crimes in Mexico. The FBI attempted to use those facts to push for more stringent Gun Control Laws claiming that guns were illegally walking to Mexico with out knowing that the Justice Department let them but actually ordered sellers to sell the weapons and sold some themselves.

The BIG difference is that when "Bush did it, too!!", he had the knowledge and cooperation of the Mexican government working with him. Even so, the plan failed, so it was cancelled. What makes BarryO and Holder so fucking arrogant that they think THEY can do it WITHOUT EVEN TELLING THE MEXICANS?!?!?

Was that the same logic Bush used regarding Pakistan? Is that why Osama bin Laden was hanging out in their backyard for so long with no fear of being caught?

WTF?? We're talking about gunrunning to Mexico, not Osama Bin Laden. Go muck up a different thread...

BUSh stopped it when MEXICO didn't/ Couldn't cooperatewith tracking.

Try again...

Obama OWNS this. HOLDER will go down...and take OBAMA with him;.

The argument is that we shouldn't be doing anything without Mexico's approval. Is this the same logic we should use regarding every country, or only when Republicans don't like it?

Are you batshit crazy or what? The argument is that you shouldn't resurrect a failed operation just to make it 5 times bigger and 1/2 as likely to succeed. And don't call me a Republican, either. Your 2 parties are like heads and tails, it's all the same Big Government, Globalist coin.

Wide Receiver was a short term program that was CANCELLED when Mexican authorities informed the US they could not track the weapons once in Mexico. It started and ended in 2007 as I understand it. It involved the Cooperation of Mexican Government and even used tracking devices on the weapons. Some 400 weapons were ultimately lost and the program SHUT DOWN in 2007.

Fast and Furious was started in 2009 and if we are to believe Holder there are glaring differences. One is everyone at Justice acknowledges Wide Receiver . We know who started it, who participated, what weapons were used and we know that the Mexican Government was involved.

Under Fast and Furious Holder claims no one at Justice knew about it. And yet he promoted all the field officials that we know were involved, moved them to DC and hides them from Congress. We know that Fast and Furious used no tracking devices and did not involve even informing the Mexican Government of the program. We know that the 2 men ultimately arrested were in fact informants for another Government agency and thought they had immunity and thought that the gun running was pay back for them cooperating.

Your exact quote I responded to was:

He didn't clear it with Rubio either.:D

I really admire the rw's for their ability to

DANCE.

Y'all have a fee details wrong but that's okay. You're rw's and we expect that from you.

Carry on.

The bigger question is if the Mexican and US Governments tried it and it didn't work, (they were trying to find drug traffickers) why in the world would the Obama administration try it without even letting the Mexican government know??? What was Fast and Furious about?? Why did they do it???

I'm thinking it was to so they could have a reason to ban all weapons for US Citizens. To get rid of the provision in the 2nd Amendment.

Yea Obozo owns this. Holder owns this, it's their debacle and theirs alone.

Started by Bush and passed on to Obama. Renamed Fast and Furious, a Border Patrol agent killed, AG Holder disciplined an agent and stopped the ridiculous program that never should have been started and should not have continued under President Obama. .....
so... you finally have something to criticize Obama for. Have at it. Let's here what you think of Obama for Fast & Furious...

Oh dear God, more of Bush did it first crap.............when is it going to end???? So if I ask George Bush to jump off a cliff, do you think Obama will follow (Please!!!)
