Why is the GOP treating sarah palin like a fragile little Alaskan beauty queen, and won't let the press talk to her until they stop being "mean" to her?

I'm sure she's a smart capable woman who should be able to handle herself, particularly since we are told she's ready to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

The media treated Hillary Clinton like crap for over a decade. They were a pack of wild dogs to her - but she had the cajones to stand up and punch them back in the mouth. She didn't take shit from anyone. She didn't hide from the press, and I respect her for that. She's a real woman. A tough woman.

Very true, about Hillary. She didn't act the shrinking violet, ever.

I think Republicans, as a whole, are conflicted about women. On the one hand, they want to use them as political tools. And on the other hand...well, maybe they aren't conflicted at all.

The republicans don’t want her to talk to the media because they know it would damage their campaign. One live interview with a politically savvy journalist and she’s finished.

I'm okay with that. If the GOP continues to insist the media isn't treating her with respect and deference, then she'll never talk to them. That can only hurt them.

And what's this deference garbage, anyway? Why must we treat our potential public servants with deference? It seems to me they should be treating us with deference.

Actually, they just announced that she's going to be doing an interview with Charlie Gibson. He'll toss her a few softballs. She'll do fine cause there won't be any real questions. They'll roll her out carefully. Karl Rove is doing a good job as McCain's "unofficial advisor". Nothing less than I'd expect from him.

LOL, yeah I think I can read between the lines.

Something about Rush Limbaugh and the rightwing calling her their "hot babe", but then feeling she has to be protected from the mean media like a fragile little beauty queen. Political tool indeed.

If they don't think that she can handle the "mean" press, how's she going to handle Vladimir Putin?

Personally, I'm going to assume she's smart and can handle herself. Hell, she refers to herself as a pitbull with lipstick. I would think she'd be insulted that some old Republican men feel the need to "protect" her from the mean media.

It’s not that she needs protecting from the mean media at all. I bet she could really chew up any reporter in true pitbull style. It’s what she would say though. It’s her views, opinions and history that the republicans want to hide. Sure most users of this forum know about the Adam and Eve stuff, the wanting rape victims to bear their attackers children, her porky history etc. But for the general American public to hear that stuff coming out of her mouth on mainstream TV the GOP know is too dangerous and will lose them votes.

Why do Dems speak of Palin as some bimbo who is being held captive in a concentration camp? I bet when she feels like she wants to get out there and deal with the critical press, she will. Maybe she doesn't WANT to make all the gaffes that her fellow candidate are making.
Either way--I've NEVER seen a woman who could be kept silent against her will.
