Why is Obama perceived as weak?

I wouldn't call Obama weak. He is a politician and a good one. He will do whatever is needed to accomplish his goals. With the help of a democratic congress, he passed healthcare reform, something no president has done and few have even attempted. He also passed the most sweeping financial reforms in our history, extended unemployment twice, bailed out the financial industry and GM, passed the largest financial stimulus package in history, got the Salt treaty ratified, and abolished Don't Ask Don't Tell; all this in just two years. He of course, paid the price. He stomped all over Republicans in congress, alienated half the nation, and lost the House.

You may not like him, but it would be a mistake to regard him as a weak.

Obama is about as idealist as my cat. He is a pragmatist. There was a poll done about a years ago. One of the questions asked how you would describe yourself, conservative, liberal, or independent. About 80% of the Republicans said they were conservative. Only about half that number of Democrats considered themselves liberal. Republicans are the ideologues, not Democrats. Unlike Republicans when considering legislation, they are rarely concerned what our forefathers might think, nor whether the legislation would be regarded as socialist, capitalist, or whatever but simply whether the legislation will benefit the country.

Perfect example. The Republican leadership held millions of unemployed hostage, threatening to cut off their benefits unless unasked for tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires was passed. The Republican base said Obama should have bargained more. Yea, until those benefits were cut. The Republican base would have howled. The Republican leadership doesn't give a shit about middle class Americans. Obama did what he had to for the very people who call him weak. That makes him a better man.
