Why do Republicans hate free speech?

A recent incident in this forum has led me to a question.

Why are Republicans, and especially the Bush administration, attacking the average American’s right to free speech?

Man ejected from a Bush event for wearing a Kerry T-shirt – under another shirt!!

Conservative groups boycott Slimfast for Whoopi Goldberg’s left-wing remarks – leads to her termination as spokesperson.

Linda Rondstadt “escorted from hotel” for praising Fahrenheit 9/11

This one has a happy ending – Linda has since been apologized to and invited back to do another show – with special guest Michael Moore!

Conservative group “Move America Forward” tries to block movie theatres from showing Michael Moore’s anti-Bush documentary

A film that has brought in a ton of cash! It wasn’t just us liberal wackos who went to see this one!

And anyone who wants to protest a Bush rally quickly discovers that free speech no longer applies to all American soil – we’re zoning it now:

The “American Conservative” hosts this article!
I think everyone here will admit that this is scary.

And here, in a forum I find under the link “express yourself” … I am kicked out of a discussion under the category “Political races” for comparing Bush’s downfalls with that of Kerry’s. Apparently I was off topic!! Some of my posts were even deleted!! Oh, that reminds me, how’s your day going NightTrain?

I wouldn’t push most of you guys out of the way of a moving vehicle either, but I would defend your right to “express yourself”.

First, you tell me why the DEMOCRATS are against free speech when it doesn't agree with them?

As it was a PRIVATE event, the GOP supports that hosted the event have a right to deny entry to anybody they want.

Now, you tell me, why did the Democratic supporters attack an anti-Abortionist yesterday in Boston? Where they inhibiting HIS free speech? I mean, he was in a PUBLIC area and not at a PRIVATE event.

Actually, if you read the press release made by Slim-Fast, there was NO ORGANIZED boycott. They just didn't like what Whoopie had to say as they knew it wasn't what the MAJORITY OF THEIR customs believe and they felt she did not represent the company appropriately as she is PAID TO DO!

Well, you have the story wrong. She was escorted out by the CURRENT owners of the Aladdin and they DID NOT ask her to return.

It is the NEW owners (that have yet to take over but will soon) that have invited her back. And who are the new owners?? Surprise, surpise. It is PLANET HOLLYWOOD! Figures.

Ah, again you ignore the facts. Their opposition was because IT VIOLATES the McCain Finegold law.

YOU ARE SO FAKE and a sad excuse for a HUMAN BEING!

Why do you ask this, and then not provide a single example of the Bush Administration attacking any American's right to free speech?

I wouldn’t push most of you guys out of the way of a moving vehicle

Geez, thanks.

Are you telling me that someone trying to infiltrate a Kerry event with a Bush t-shirt wouldn't be escorted out? It works both ways.

These three examples are all people, acting not necessarily as Republicans or conservatives, but as consumers, voting with their pocketbooks and urging others to do the same. It's not censorship, as you liberals like to claim; it's free market capitalism.

This is standard practice at any political event. Do you think John Kerry is going to allow protestors inside at the convention this week?!?

You would be wise to NOT question the decisions of moderators publicly. If you have an issue with what a mod does, you can PM them, or you can PM 'jimnyc,' 'SirEvil,' or 'admin,' the board administrators.

Maybe he'll have an answer for you in a week. Apparently 24 hours wasn't enough for you to follow the rules. Take time during your hiatus to read the rules again. Seeya in a week!
