Many Americans love Big Government. They may love it for different reasons but they do love it. The Republican Party has been controlled by Big Government Progressives for a long time now. The Republican Party is not a Conservative Party. Right now they're only slightly less Socialist/Progressive than the other Party is. I would call them Democrat-Light at this point.

I just read where most Republicans are now pushing for the Government to start taxing internet transactions. That's hardly a Conservative thing to do no? I know they're giving all those excuses about how they're helping the poor brick & mortar businesses but really they were just bought off again. So now the Government will be in there Taxing the Internet with the help of the GOP. They've been screwing real Conservatives over like that for many years. Big Government advocates control the country. And that's because they're Republicans and Democrats. Time for a Third Party? You bet.

Are you really saying the Republicans haven't been for Big Government in recent years? Because that would be astounding. The Republican Party is only slightly less Socialist/Progressive than the other Party is. It certainly couldn't be called a Conservative party at this point. Hopefully that will change but i'm not seeing it yet.

Little Government Conservatism drowned during Katrina, and unlike everyone else who did, no one will miss it.

We want government to be there when we need it.

So what the GOP should be for is SMART government, not big government.

Exactly, bring back the "Grace Commission" to streamline government and eliminate duplication would be a good start. They save billions the last time it happened, but now the congressional fiefdoms would be a major turf-battle.

    Nonsense.

You post as if it were some simple choice, vanilla or chocolate. It’s not.

The ‘size’ of government is appropriate for a First World, industrialized superpower with a modern economy. The Constitution says nothing as to what size the government must be, how many Federal workers, number of departments or agencies, or what its budget should be.

It’s this very unrealistic naïveté that renders Paul unfit to be president and his supporters equally clueless and reactionary.

No. Republicans have been for ‘big government’ for well over one hundred years, if not longer.

Well then many of them should stop claiming they are for small Government Conservativism. Because obviously they're lying. If they are for Big Government Progressivism, then just be honest and say that. And when or if they do say that,it will be time for a viable Third Party.

I believe some republicans actually believe that the federal government should play a role in our lives just as long as they agree with the ideas being pushed...

    I don't...

I don't hate Bush either - I don't believe Bush was tyrannical - I think he was faced with difficult decisions after 9/11 and made some bad decisions that were ultimately abused by the powers that be, such as the Patriot Act for example..

Shit didn't get out of hand until the democrats took congress in 2006 and even more so in 2008 when they had a super majority..
