Why are Tea Partiers opposed to having a safety net?

I kinda think this sums it up....

It’s amazing to me how many people think that voting to have the government give poor people money is compassion. Helping poor and suffering people is compassion. Voting for our government to use guns to give money to help poor and suffering people is immoral self-righteous bullying laziness.

People need to be fed, medicated, educated, clothed, and sheltered, and if we’re compassionate we’ll help them, but you get no moral credit for forcing other people to do what you think is right. There is great joy in helping people, but no joy in doing it at gunpoint.
-Penn Jillette

I would add that you especially dont get credit for forcing others to do what you think is right when you dont do whats right yourself.

In other words, why do you think you'll never need to be supported through rough times? Our economy is rapidly changing - moving towards a knowledge based system. Outsourcing to third world countries is killing our manufacturing base and thanks to trade agreements, no one profits from that except the multinational corporations. Illegal immigrants fill the niche for unskilled labor. Few people have enough land or have sufficient water rights to produce their own food. And most middle class Americans are drowning in a sea of mortgage and credit card debt.

When Republicans say they want to stop loafers from getting free money, they are really talking about blacks or browns. I remember that video of the white guy from Mississippi who was complaining about lazy people getting food stamps. When someone yelled out, "You get food stamps", he said, "Yea, because I don't have a job". Like Craig T. Nelson saying, "I've been unemployed, I've gotten food stamps and welfare. Anyone help me out? No!".

And rdummy playing the race card... go figure with that baseless but typical ploy

And who gives a fuck about some random guy and Craig Nelson?? They stand for everyone and dictate what conservatives think??

Puh-lease

In his case, I think he started believing that he had the Midas touch. His intial success was relatively easy, he figured the gravy train would keep rolling for him in one way or another. When he saw that the video business was starting to go to the big guys, he bought a hair cutting franchise which he was clearly not cut out for.

Yet you claimed it was BIG CORPORATIONS that did his business in. What a genius.

His story is indicative of small businesses everywhere in America. I don't expect the status quo to remain in place in every industry forever but the corporations have agressively taken aim on nearly every business model a mom and pop could pull off.

The funny thing is, he also fits the profile of a Tea Partier. One of your common conceptions is that wealth and freedom are yours for the taking in this land where the streets are paved with gold. Nobody fails if they just work long and hard enough and the corporations just make life great for everybody (well, he might not believe that part so much any longer).

The only people who fail in this country are the failures. The streets of America are paved with gold - just ask the endless list of millionaires and billionaires who came from poverty or middle class homes.

1. Oprah Winfrey - from poverty to billionaire
2. Steve Jobs - from adopted by middle class family to billionaire
3. H. Wayne Huizenga - from middle class to billionaire
4. Barry Switzer - from severe poverty to millionaire
5. Chris Gardner - from severe poverty to millionaire
6. Michael Irvin - from severe poverty to millionaire

That's just a couple off the top of my head. Oh yeah, 3 on that list are white, and 3 are black, so it proves the racial stuff the idiot liberal cries about is as bullshit as the rest of their senseless bullshit.

At the end of the day, liberals are too lazy to put in the efforts necessary to be successful. If they put HALF as much time into working as they do crying and bitching about life, they would be billionaires.

Good grief, I just realized I forgot about one of the best examples of all - Michael Moore. The lying fat slob went from poverty to millionaire while trying to convince America that it is impossible to go from poverty to millionaire under capitalism

Im fairly confident I dont want "Whites" to be lazy and loafing any more than I want anyone from any other race doing that. I dont like idleness.

But then what do I know? Clearly rdean thinks he has some insight into what I think to a greater degree than I do. Maybe he is right and I am wrong about my own personally held beliefs... Nah.

Heck, who knows if this random guy actually exists?

The state of omg..lol? Never heard of it. Must be a new state for teabaggers who like the socialism they get but hate the socialism others get.

LOL, you're a joke
Maybe you should look up what it is our Federal and State Goverments are SUPPOSE to do with OUR TAX DOLLARS..

Sure, just as soon as you tell me which state you live in that gets no federal highway funds.

What is the LEGISLATED source of revenue for those Highway Funds I should be sooo grateful to recieve? Wow -- are you easy to impress. Must think the ATM loves you...

That is true. In fact, I can't imagine that any small business to fails to adapt an obsolete business model is almost assuredly going to fail. With or without larger competitors.

Can you make a policy based argument at all or does EVERYTHING come down to pure idealogy for you people? It gets old after a while.

Let me make it a bit clearer to your limited understanding. If those in need can not get the help they need, their children are more likely to grow up to become criminals who can't hold down a job. When someone with no resources is facing death by starvation, they will steal food to live. If they steal it from your house, they will either be successful and you will have your home broken into - or you will shoot them dead and blood leaves a very, very nasty stain and the cops will be all up in your business

Have you ever been out of the country?

what does welfare have to do with that? Why do you think those families are in such need? And why do you think that need lasts generations? maybe its because they are not given enough...

liberals are idiots.

Do you honestly think the answer to those questions would fit on in a single message?

No- but lack of enough welfare has nothing to do with "those in need" having children that "grow up to be criminals that can't hold down a job".

If you don't have the money to pay it and you have medical equipment that requires electricity and that you require to stay alive - then I've no trouble with my tax dollars subsidizing your expense, or with the law requiring the electric monopoly do so (at ultimate expense to paying customers).

Well its gotta be eithe all or nothing, right? Either we're all 100% responsible for everyone else - or we're 0% responsible for everyone else. Its gotta be that way because anyway in between would just be way to complex and it would blow your tiny little brain to bits.

And that is what is known as your PERSONAL CHOICE to be that generous to someone or some cause or some situation....

it is NOT a responsibility of citizen X to pay for the responsibilities, debts, wants, needs, loans, or whatever of citizen Y... it is inherently against the concept of personal freedom, private property, and liberty...

You are just too brainwashed and idiotic (or quite frankly just one of the lazy) to accept that with freedoms come positives and negatives... and with your freedom to succeed comes the freedom to fail.. and it is ALL on you.... not everyone else and not a nanny state

Have you ever been out of the country?

Have you ever tried to help the daughter of a Crack Mom? You think you're safety net is gonna guarantee a different outcome? It's the arrogance of the Leftists who ASSUME they're doing God's work simply by writing a bigger tax check that appalls me.

I've chased after a family addict before. It's pretty futile til they hit bottom. Too bad for the kid -- but I don't really like "wards of the state" either. Even after the addict got relatively clean, I've had futile episodes of trying to modify the outcome.. It's NOT ANYTHING like writing a check. IN FACT -- writing a check is one of the WORST things you can do to help.

Yup. The only place you and I might have a friendly disagreement is that I think children MUST be removed from homes in which they are neglected, abused, and/or traumatized. And it is a rare crack mom who doesn't do all those things to their kids. What kind of mother sends her kid off to school without breakfast? Without lunch money or a sack lunch? More often than not it is going to be a mom strung out on drugs.

And no child should be left in that environment.

That's a little too eerily close to "No Child Left Behind" for me..

We could have that "discussion" some day.. But right now -- I'm jazzin' on the sudden silence of the "caring", charitable leftists who are really only ever fixated on the MONEY and political value and not the individuals that need the help... Isn't the quiet wonderful???
:D

Those against safety nets are already wealthy enough not to have to worry about it. They have theirs. To heck with others. I believe the entitlements will need to be looked at and trimmed. But I surely would be against the removal of them. That would be anti Christian.

Is that why by and large people of this nation respond to crisises all over the world when needed...and even in thier own country amoung themselves with out Government call?

Try again.

Yup, every cancer patient without insurance surely is given a couple of hundred thousand to help out. I guess if thats the case then so be it. Get rid of entitlements. If I get sick, I wont have enough to pay for it. But I will give them a small tigeon per month. I know full well my filthy nasty insurance company would balk my every pre authorization.

question is pretty much politically irrelevant in 2012. The worm has turned.

Heres the proof..................
