In that you are quite wrong. Human life is the yardstick by which the consequences of my actions are measured. Those actions which lead to the harm of myself, others or both are condemned. Those which are beneficial to myself, others or both may be freely undertaken.
If my actions are harmful to myself or others, justice will come in the form of the judgement of my peers. The payoff, the reward, lies in the satisfaction of doing good for myself and others and the earned respect of those around me. I don't need the promise of an after-life to be a moral person.
