Why Alvin and not the Feds? Or, why Cohen and not Individual 1?

You really should not be practicing law on the internet.

The statute of limitations didn't run out on felonies.

(You don't like that, I get it)

Soon the case will be before a jury.

(I get you don't like that either.)

I would recommend a reading for comprehension class for you.

The Hildabeast, used a lawyer to secretly pay for the phony Steele Dossier and booking it as legal expenses. She was fined by the FEC, but she wasn’t prosecuted, and neither was Barack Obama, even though he was fined a whopping $375,000 for hiding donors and keeping illegal contributions.

No one with a functioning brain sees this as anything but election interference.
The functioning brains will win out this time.

I had almost forgotten the incident on Air Force One when Trump denied knowing anything about the payment to Stormy Daniels. Even though he had already written the reimbursement check to Michael Cohen for the payment to her. The lie he told that day was spoken so easily. Just what you'd expect from someone who had lied thousands and thousands of times before.

The essence of the thread is how Trump corruptly used the DoJ, and a willing AG, to fend off federal charges for his hush money scheme. The kind of thing that gets virtually no reaction from Team Trump because corruption is the norm for him. But would send them in to an apoplectic frenzy if Biden did something similar to protect himself or his kid.

But because Joe hasn't, the Trump cult has to make shit up.
You Really don't know that the John Edwards case is the precedent here. The feds determined no crime here based on that precedent. This whole fabricated case, with NO underlying crime even presented (required by law) is a joke and will backfire spectacularly.

What the Clinton Campaign did by paying for it thru their law firm is not a crime. And nobody publicly knew about the steele dossier until after Trump came into office, so it had no influence on the election.
For Obama campaign, it was failing to report on donations within the 48 hour required period, which is not a crime, but a campaign finance reporting violation.

How soon they forget.

Inside Barr’s Effort to Undermine Prosecutors in N.Y.

Shortly after he became attorney general last year, William P. Barr set out to challenge a signature criminal case that touched President Trump’s inner circle directly, and even the president’s own actions: the prosecution of Michael D. Cohen, Mr. Trump’s longtime fixer.

The debate between Mr. Barr and the federal prosecutors who brought the case against Mr. Cohen was one of the first signs of a tense relationship that culminated last weekend in the abrupt ouster of Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States attorney in Manhattan. It also foreshadowed Mr. Barr’s intervention in the prosecutions of other associates of Mr. Trump.

By the time Mr. Barr was sworn into office in February, Mr. Cohen, who had paid hush money to an adult film star who said she had an affair with Mr. Trump, had already pleaded guilty and was set to begin a three-year prison sentence, all of which embarrassed and angered the president.

But Mr. Barr spent weeks in the spring of 2019 questioning the prosecutors over their decision to charge Mr. Cohen with violating campaign finance laws, according to people briefed on the matter.

Inside Barr’s Effort to Undermine Prosecutors in N.Y. (Published 2020)

Eventually, Billy the Bagman pushed to have the charges against Cohen dropped. From Berman's book..........."While Cohen had pleaded guilty, our office continued to pursue investigations related to other possible campaign finance violations. When Barr took over in Feb. of 2019, he not only tried to kill the ongoing investigations but...incredibly...suggested that Cohen's conviction on campaign finance charges be reversed."

Why?

Because Individual 1 was implicated in the same illegal campaign finance violations Cohen had plead guilty to.

Book: The DOJ almost implicated Trump more directly in a crime

It was a shocking enough document as it was. Donald Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, had pleaded guilty to illegally concealing hush money paid to two women who were accusing Trump of extramarital affairs. The 2018 charging document implicated Trump, named as “Individual-1,” notably by saying he attended a meeting about how he might quash any negative stories about his relationships.

And it might have implicated Trump even further, then-U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman now says — were it not for the kind of politically tinged meddling that he says was endemic in the Trump Justice Department.

The New York Times last week briefly noted that Berman’s new book alleges that a Justice Department official tried to get references to Trump removed from the Cohen charging document. And now that the book is out, we have Berman’s fuller account of the events.

Concealing hush money isn't illegal.

Poor dud.

The problem is the federal government doesn't view it as a crime.

Who says?

Was it a Campaign expense or a Trump Organization expense?

Absurd whataboutisms noted. Trump stood in front of reporters and lied about a check he had written to reimburse Cohen for the hush money payment to Daniels while he was sitting in the Oval office. All in an attempt to keep his sexual affair with a porn star from the voting public just before the election. Or, what could accurately be described as election interference.

Hillary wasn't even aware that Marc Elias had hired Fusion GPS to continue oppo research on Trump initially arranged for by Repubs. Additionally, Elias was not aware of Steele's methods, sources, or even who he was. Finally, while existence of the dossier was leaked to the media late in the campaign Hillary never used its specific contents while campaigning.

As for Obama's fine, The major sticking point for the FEC appeared to be a series of missing 48-hour notices for nearly 1,300 contributions totaling more than $1.8 million — an issue that lawyers familiar with the commission’s work say the FEC takes seriously. The notices must be filed on contributions of $1,000 or more that are received within the 20-day window of Election Day.

How's them apples, cuck?
