Who is voting for Kerry - and why?

This page has more about the Mission Accomplished thing. They sure distorted that one.

My favorite thing is hearing how people want Kerry because he's a veteran and Bush is AWOL (ignoring how he insulted veterans, had fake veterans testify about atrocities, has an anti-defense and anti-intelligence voting record, and didn't want to investigate what happened to POWs in Vietnam in 1993). Then there are the numerous (even for a politician) flip-flops on about every issue.

I like this thread topic Winston. There have been many voices on this board against what they believe President Bush is. However when asked for reasons to vote for Senator Kerry the most defined answer is:
i also will vote for kerry simply because he isn't bush.

The democrats are letting Bush define the political climate. If the democrats hope to gain the White House they will need reasons to vote for Kerry and not just against Bush. I posted an article on voting numbers for this year's Democrat primary. It seems the Democrat base is not very motivated right now. Of course there will be vocal and active people on the Democratic side but are they really going to get the vote out for Kerry?

The dem base has gotten smaller and more radical. Even the party moderates are wondering what happened to there party. Thanks to dean and the gang the party has been pulled sp far left that most american's no longer see them selfs affiliated as dems. however because of the "Bush bashing" most people who would probally vote republican on the dem side in a primary are being worked up by the whole Anti-Bush thing. the Dems are focusing this election as a Bush vs. No Bush election. They have no goals, no asspirations other than the fact to get Bush out of Office. I predict that the Republicans will hold a major majority in the house, and will finally get 60 senators to stop the liberal fillabustering, and retain the white house. Our country will finally get the chance to sheed these backwards socialist ideas that have benn going on since 1992. It tokk twelve years but we will finally get our country back.

I obviously don't have any intention of posting a reason to vote for Kerry. My imagination isn't that vivid. Reading the posts just made me want to say that I came to a decision some time ago. There was a time when I leaned pretty heavily toward the Democrats, back when men like Paul Simon were leading the party. Over the years the Democrats have slowly made me lean away from them. It started with that idiotic "ethics fine" on Newt Gingrich. How they could vote to give Gingrich an ethics fine while Clinton was getting sexual favors in the oval office is beyond me.
This election campaign cut it. Not only are the Dems standing on a platform built on lies and conspiracy theories, many of them openly admit that they are voting for someone just because he isn't someone else. They ignore the issues and the records, and what they don't ignore they twist to fit their needs. This is a dangerous time in history to vote that way.
I have vowed not to vote for any Democrats this year, I don't care if it's national, state, or local. If I don't like the Republican candidate, I'll go third party or write someone in.
For President, anyone with an ounce of common sense knows the truth and knows the right choice for President of the United States.

Jimmyeatworld: I'm impressed with your candor. I am a conservtive person but I like and respect people of all different political leanings. I don't always have to agree with them, but I can still accept that they are good people trying to do what's right for the world.

However, there aren't many democrats that can be said about anymore. My perennial favorite was Carter. i truly admire him and hope that since he believes in the hereafter, he gets there and has peace. He deserves it.

I also used to like Chuck Robb. Thought he was a good man-til he proved me wrong.

Stephanie Herseth also seems to have some laudable qualities but I'll have to watch her.

Ruth Bader Ginsberg is quite liberl. But, personally, I believe she does what she feels is right and is not swayed by greed and avarice.

Madeline Albright? Ed Koch?

Well good to know some people still like Carter. I think he was a horrible president. I think his humanitarian aid has been but i think he has been responsible for more war and death through inaction and betraying our allies then many other people. I think he may have to account for that. He certainly didnt deserve a peace prize with his record. He betrayed our allies and let Iran fall to fundamentalists, which caused Saddam to gain power in Iraq, he negociated on of the dumbest treaties in American history with North Korea during the Clinton administration. We have to deal with the Axis of evil mainly because of Carters policies. Which is sad because I think his intentions have been generally good.

Personally I hope he doesnt get what he deserves, i hope he gets mercy. I know i certainly dont want what i deserve.

The point of my post was that the intention of the person means a lot more than the actual results. The attitude in your post is depressing because you can't see the value in the intent of the man. There is no shame in trying and failing. There is no shame in being wrong about something if you tried your best to do good things. Carter was not a good president. He wasn't smart enough at foreign relations to realize the ramifications of his actions. And he wasn't strong enough to surround himself with people who could have made up for his ineptitude.

However, that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve respect for what he tried to do - bring about peace - just because he failed or I don't agree with the means he tried to achieve it.

I'm no hippy, granola chick who sings kumbaya in my house. I dislike a lot of people, advocate for unpopular beliefs due to my morals, believe in the death penalty and lose no sleep over casualties of war. However, I can still see the value of good men doing for the good of the planet whether they succeed or are popular for it.

There is only one way to spread peace, through freedom. To refuse to stand up for freedom in the world is not seeking peace. Peace by appeasement never works. And Im not talking about intentions. Personally I dont even think his intentions were right. I think his intentions were for personal glory and that peace prize not to bring actual peace. I hope he gets mercy. I hope i get mercy too.

I was once a democrat too. I did think Carter was a genuine person but a 'lack' President. I think he did what he thought best at the time.

When Reagan came along, I voted for him and I was a democrat and I never voted democrat again.

The few that I did like at the time where Cuomo, Koch to name a few - I lived in New York needless to say.
I remained a democrat for a few years despite the fact I was voting republican and than decided to change and become a member of neither party. Over the years I still voted republican and then changed to that party.
I used to be one of those crazy liberal thinking people that , at this in my life, make no sense. I was young and thought I knew more than I did and having traveled around the world, educated myself and met more people than I ever thought, my views have changed.

I just look at the democrats now with disgust. Look at what they offering for President. It speaks volumes to me....if this man is the best they can do, the best they can send out to represent their party - what must that say for the rest?

'peace by appeasment never works'

true.

some think that we can just 'talk' with the bad guys and make them understand what they are doing is wrong and hurtfull.

All of that may work in the Hollywood folklore of storytelling but in real life it does not work like that.

If you want to talk to the UBL's of the world and try peace, see how long it will take for those UBL's to pull the rug out from under your feet before you know what hit you. They are smarter than most Americans, do not mistake that.

Interesting, only one person replied to a reason to vote for Kerry. And actually not really for Kerry but a vote against Bush. Winston's question is going unanswered from the left.

Ive been asking this question to others elsewhere and i have not gotten any response of why anyone shoudl vote for kerry other than he isnt bush except one: He looks funny.

I do not agree with Bush's ultra-conservative agenda.
-his stance on abortion
-his religious values, and his insistence to proclaim himself and America "Christian."
-his enviromental policies
-obviously, the war in Iraq

Goes the same for his moron brother, Jeb. (Or "Jeb!" Here in FL)

On the other hand, the good thing about having a trigger-happy Texan in the White House is that I feel safe, knowing there are national guard jets about fifty miles away, ready to incinerate anything that tries to attack Florida. That is the only thing I like about him......sadly for him, I feel like I would feel the same way with a Democrat in office. I don't think Kerry is just some prissy rich guy from Mass, I think he could handle our defense well. Therefore, my vote is going to Kerry.

first off welcome to the board golden arms, your avatar is HOT!!!!;)

Now to the issue. Kerry is not the choice you need to think about, Kerry would stop those air national gaurd flights the secound he came into office. He would withdrawl all troops from Iraq and allow the Iraqies to figure things out. That would cause an Iraqi civil war and the leader of the winners would not be very good. Infact he would probablly be a worse person than sadam. He would more than likely be a shite and he would ally himself with Iran. You better belive that that would be a nightmare. We would be blamed for that and Isreal would suffer greatly.
If you want to feel safe vote for bush. Kerry will gut the millitary and defence. you will be less safe.

They are going to jail for the crimes they committed during the 90s. I doubt you are trying to claim Bush is responsible for scandals that were going on before he was President are you? I think the fact that Bush has been clearly straight forward in prosecuting these people is clear indication that these actions will not be tolerated.

You damned right, and that lil bastard broke into my house last night and drank my last beer. Now you tell me when enough is enough??? Oh yeah he used the last of my toilet paper too, what kind of a man does that???

I switched my party yesterday and will be voting for Kerry.

Why? As a first reason, I am not a racist and didn't realize I was one as a Republican. When the Republicans took over the remnants of Jim Crow and were joined by the equally racist NRA and religious Right, the party came out of the doldrums. No average working man wanted to support the rich man's party before that. No Republican president after Carter did not go to Jim Jones University to pledge their souls to continuing Jim Crow, and they made it possible to be Republican and racist at the same time through denial and tokens. In the meantime, the racist following became so strong, it was possible for the Republicans to take their socialist Darwinism and Calvinism out of the closet, starting with Reagan. The rich are rich because they are Godly; the poor suffer because they are in cahoots with the Devil. The rich therefore deserve all that the government can give them, all the government they can buy, because they earned it and more. My second reason for voting for Kerry: I am not going to continue being a stupid fool supporting policies that favor racism and the rich when I am neither one of these. Kerry, by the way, intends to roll back the Bush taxcuts to the rich and close the 400 billion tax loop holes used by corporations and the wealthy every year to avoid paying taxes.

Sorry but the implication is there. If your candidate goes to Jim Jones for support, it is racist support. In Bush's case, it allowed him to beat the only decent Republican in the 2000 race, McCain. It is not just the South either. Here in Michigan, Engler served three terms by running against the Detroit Black community. It runs deep. We had Democrats for Reagan and Democrats for Engler as well, all residing in white suburban communities. It may be too subtle to recognize, but it is there. The Republican party would not be what it is today without it. Nothing personal, but take a hard look.
