That is an amazing stat. I would have thought maybe Spann because he could bring the lumber to the plate as well as heat from the mound.

I trust you mean warren spahn and yes, he was a great hitter for a pitcher. But he wasn't all that great a pitcher for a pitcher..He didn't really have any fantastic seasons; just a bunch of pretty good years. And he had a very long career despite 3 years missed fighting the krautheads.

363 wins, 3.09 ERA lifetime, and a 1.19 whip.

Gooden: 194 wins, 3.56 ERA lifetime and a 1.256.

The overall much better pitcher was Spahn.

Obviously spahn had a by far better career but doc had the best single season. Doc could have been one of the all time greats but, like most blacks, he couldn't control himself and got caught in the cocaine/booze trap.
