    Open 1970 playoff with Doug Sanders - and drove the green. Like Babe Ruth pointing to the fences

    (wouldnt have happened if Sanders hadnt choked on 2 footer t win in reg - still painfull to look at)

    That is what propelled him onward in his career.

    Had been suffering a 3 year drought - for him.....

    70 -72 wasthe best he ever played - won on sheer talent -almost won the Grand Slam in 1972

    After that - he won on the mental aspect...

    Nobody beats the Golden Bear.

    He thrw hisputter up in the air anditalmost came down on Doug Sanders.

    Nicklcaus was down ande out until he won the 1970 British Open.

    Would say himself it was probably the biggest win of his career.
