The good part of the story is this... But the economy always recovers. It runs in cycles,

That being said why are we spending trillions of dollars on something that is going to fix itself?

The Obama Slide will continue unabated until the United States becomes a Socialist utopia.

I don't actually buy into that notion. More likely, the excessive spending from the left will continue to batter our economy, finally leading to a re-evaluation of the leftist agenda, at which time we shall see a huge swing to true conservatism on the fiscal side of things. More likely than not, this will come about more out of necessity than a true change in ideology.

By that time it might be too late. The number of government jobs is already increasing while the private sector continues to get hammered. There are also an increasing number of people with an entitlement mentality. Eventually, there will be a critical mass of leftists and poor people who will continue to vote for marxists like Obama. It will become a self-fulfilling prophecy with the achievers representing the minority. It might be time to get a government job and milk the system until Rome burns.

I didn't say it would be pretty. However, the more the government controls, the more it must collect to fund it's programs. Eventually, there won't be any place left to collect those revenues, and a new conservative attitude will take hold. Europe is heading in that direction. We think we have a problem with SS and Medicare? Most European countries are in much worse shape than us, and it's starting to take hold. Sarkozy's election in France is just one of the first signs that things are beginning to change. In Germany, there has been much discussion of increasing work hours, cutting taxes, and cutting government programs. Europeans are starting to understand they can't afford their Utopia.

A John Galt moment? Living through this is weird. Seduced rather than bludgeoned, close to what Tocqueville said.

Many don't believe that the market corrects itself, they believe the "free" market is to blame for the recession in the first place, and they have "mainstream" economists telling them that the government has to step into the place of American citizens to spend our way out of this recession.

Of course, they're all wrong, but that is what they believe.
