Dems are likely to lose a couple of seats in the Senate, just because they are defending many more seats than Republicans this time around, but I think it improbable that the Dems lose control of the Senate. On the other side, Dems will almost certainly pick up seats in the House, but not enough to win back control. That won't happen until 2016. I think 2016 is going to be a clean sweep for the Dems with Hillary leading the way. I envisions a scenario in which Republicans lose across the board. Dems will pick up seats in the Senate and they will win back the House. Hillary will even carry Texas with Julian Castro on the ticket.

You are right about the gerrymandering to a point. Remember that the middle class controls the outcome of every election. Right now the middle class is moving to the center and that may be enough to get us some real changes. Michelle Bachmann knew she was toast if she ran again. I think there will be many districts like this over the span of the next two elections where moderate Dems oust super conservative Republicans.
