What were your parents political views?

My parents never talked politics .....

I pretty much am the 1st one in my family to be interested in politics.

My dad had conservative tendencies, but was a union man.
My mom left my dad when I was 13 and then discovered she was a lesbian, and she is very conservative, go figure......

Yep, my family is weird.... :cuckoo:

My Mother-in-law, who is a life long democrat, is one of those highly religous socially conservative "creationists"

Now tell me that ain't a bit messed up. :eusa_eh:

My parents survived the Great Depression, an experience which left them angrily contemptuous of the political disposition known today as the right wing. They were best described as FDR Socialists. And that's what I am -- because I got the facts right from the horses' mouths.

The right is wrong!

Then move to a socialist country and stop trying to change mine.... just sayin'

Wow... yep, thats a weird one for sure

And how did that shape the political views you have today?

My Dad was a Democrat. Which is Ironic cause he was very conservative. My Granddad was a democrat, again ironic since he was a conservative.

My mom never talked politics.

Both my brothers and both my sisters are Democrats. As are their spouses. Though my little sister doesn't do much in the way of Politics.

I think I have always been a Republican. Conservative and law abiding. I know for Nixon's first term in a school vote I voted for Nixon. My first official vote was for Ford. I have voted for one Democratic Senator, same year I voted for Ford.

I recently voted for the Democrat that is our County Sheriff. And I voted AGAINST the RHINO that is our elected US House Representative. In the primary and in the main election.

My Grandparents did more to raise me then my parents but like I said Granddad and Dad were both conservatives, they just stupidly voted for the Democrats.

Looking back, I can see why my folks were attracted to the ACP but the whole notion of communism just seems so silly to me. People cooperate? When? I'd say the real lasting inheritance is just a natural curiosity about what is happening, along with a craving for social justice.
That's interesting. I recall my mother saying Marx had it all figured out except for one thing -- human nature.

And both your reasons are why we shouldn't "label" people, eh?

I think (and would hope) most people aren't defined by a 'name' of a political party, but by what each candidate stands for.

Exactly.

Father is basically: Don't trust a damn one of 'em, and keep your hand on your wallet in the voting booth. But he is more conservative than liberal in todays lexicon. Mother is a schoolteacher, and more liberal than my father, but still a conservative.

I'm a good blend of the two.

I will second that .... exactly

I listen and watch what the candidate says, and I act accordingly.

Mother and father both card carrying republicans since I can remember. Mothers parents, republican. Father's parents, I'm going to say usually voted dem but don't really know for sure. I think my dads parents would roll over in their graves if they knew what the democrats have become. And the rest of my immediate family is republican as well. Card carrying, hard working, military loving, low taxes, smaller government, less spending, leave me the hell alone, Christian republicans. Pretty typical for this part of the country. I know multitudes of people like that.

Do you think one's political views are regional in nature, Pale?

I'd say it's more country as opposed to city. Country being more conservative, city being more liberal. Country people are more independent and want to be left alone, which instills a conservative attitude, hard work, save your money, etc. City people are much more social. They have to live in such close confines in such large numbers, which takes a more liberal attitude.

Moms has always been a conservative Independent who voted Republican all her life, and still does.

Pops is conservative too, was a Republican for most his life, lil Independent stint recently, but back to GOP.

Moms was irrelevant to my politics/ideology as some of her social/cultural views are a lil too overly conservative.

Pops laid the foundation for my interest in politics, but my views were all mine, always.

My parents' political views have nothing to do with which way I lean politically, my views are dictated by my conscience.

In my opinion, it's impossible to judge a parties worth on their manifesto because it's only their ticket in, and they never stick to it. Past performance is irrelevent aswell, because leadership often shifts too regularly.

I stay informed by reading a magazine that I've mentioned before, which none of you seem interested in, but, as a nation, probably aren't ready to be exposed to either.

No, Ringel05, it's just that little magazine that, through its unrivalled investigative journalism, has lead to the imprisonment of more corrupt politicians, businessmen and criminals than any other magazine in the history of published media.

Its editor is also the most sued man in British legal history.

Alex, I'd like to buy a humorous for $100 please.

My parents were Nixon Republicans and are still loyal Republicans. I grew up with Nelson Rockefeller and some of the more moderate members of the party.

I voted for Reagan and Daddy Bush four times but feel like the party left me when Gingrich and company took over in the early 90s. The impeachment nonsense and the Bush debacle drove me away until such time as they regain some form of sanity
