What do Republicans want?

My land lord is a regular guest for dinner. He’s around his middle 70’s and plays bridge here in Chicago two days a week. He said that his bridge partner, who is self employed, was diagnosed with skin cancer on the side of his face. It’s non-life threatening if treated early. He went to his insurance company, a company he has been paying for years, and they dropped his policy. No other company will touch him; he needs treatment and has no idea what to do.
This is the kind of situation that “reform” is supposed to handle.

Now, I watched a news story last night that said in Las Vegas, gambling casinos are not allowed, by law, to make a profit larger then 20%. Anything larger than 20% is considered a “scam”. In Florida, for gambling casinos, it’s 17%. For Florida, anything more than 17% is considered a “scam”.
Insurance companies regularly make 25%. They are currently working with congress to make that 35%. AND, part of making that profit would to shift a percentage of the cost of surgery to patients.

So the question I have is “What do Republicans want?” Is this what you are fighting for? So companies that take your money for years can drop you as soon as you become ill?
So they can make so much money, for casino’s, it’s considered a “scam”, but for health companies, it’s a “healthy profit”. You know, at casinos, at least you are having fun.

So once again, “What do Republicans want?” What do they expect from their health care? What if they get sick, do they expect to get dropped? Do they expect to pay for their own surgery? Then why do they need health care?

I know there will be certain number that will swear, call names and use the “f” word, but for those others, I’m wondering, “What do Republicans want?”

You really want to know read their alternative bill, HR 3400. The bold area in your post is covered under HR 3400 pre-existing conditions are eliminated. But I am sure some will lie and say Republicans have no plan of their own.

GE owns NBC, not CBS. GE is also one of the world's largest weapons manufacturers .. pretty right wing I'd say.

Not to mention unless my memory is really bad, but GE was also one of the largest funders of Regan over the years. He pimped just about everything for them.

It is a myth that health insurance companies can drop you if you become sick.

Lol. Everything's a "myth" to you. That's not going to fly with those of us who have watched it happen to people. And I've already pointed out to you the protections against those lawsuits for group plans under ERISA, so why are you still spouting ignorance? Here, a little refresher for you.

Erisa sets strict standards to ensure that employers and insurers administering group benefit plans act "solely in the interests of beneficiaries for the exclusive purpose of providing benefits," not their own bottom-line. But the court has rendered these protections meaningless. In a Catch-22 decision written by Justice Scalia, a 5-4 majority held that, when plan administrators violate their obligations under the law, victims may not recover any monetary compensation for resulting losses they suffer.

This might have become a decent thread if it hadn't been framed to suggest that ONLY the Republicans are working for the insurance industry.

You people need to look into your congress person's campaign contributors are little more closely.

The Dems are in on this scam, too.

Why do you suppose the Obama didn't have a single SINGLE UNIVERSAL HC INSURANCE advoate at his roundtable when he was planning this bill?

Seriously, this partisanship some of you have is blinding you to the reality of what is really going on.

It's blinding you Democratic supporters just as much (maybe more!) than it does the Republican tools.

You keep believing that the Dems are your friends, but they're not.

they are the good cop to the Republican bad cops, but when push comes to shove, they're all working for the same people.

Like for example Obama's recent sweetheart deal with big pharma....the First Dog could have cut a better deal than Obama's miniscule 2% cost savings....(which could have been in the 30-40% range)

On June 22, President Obama said he'd reached agreement with big drug companies to cut the price of medicine by $80 billion. He extended his gratitude to Big Pharma for the deal that would, "reduce the punishing inflation in health care costHey, in my neighborhood, people think $80 billion is a lot of money. But is it?

I checked out the government's health stats (at HHS.gov), put fresh batteries in my calculator and totted up US spending on prescription drugs projected by the government for the next ten years. It added up to $3.6 trillion.

In other words, Obama's big deal with Big Pharma saves $80 billion out of a total $3.6 trillion. That's 2%.

Hey thanks, Barack! You really stuck it to the big boys. You saved America from these drug lords robbing us blind. Two percent. Cool!

For perspective: Imagine you are in a Wal-Mart and there's a sign over a flat screen TV, “BIG SAVINGS!” So, you break every promise you made never to buy from that union-busting big box - and snatch up the $500 television. And when you're caught by your spouse, you say, "But, honey, look at the deal I got! It was TWO-PERCENT OFF! I saved us $10!"

Palast scores again. Obama is not performing as expected. This and the Afghani War are wearing thin to be sure......
