What Capitalism has Done for the Common Man.

Eh, huh? The enclosure was capitalism.

Inflation caused by the government forced them to try and capitalize in the environment created by that inflation.

Who wouldent! I don't know a person alive who has done otherwise. You, me, and everyone does it.

8537 was using enclosure in England to prove "Capitalisism sometimes serves to do just the opposite, and markets can not be expected to properly allocate nonmarket goods. That's where government's role arises."

The enclosure laws were a result of inflation?

What?

No the government first caused inflation that lead to people turning to enclosure to try and survive the inflation. Then government came in to create the enclosure laws to stop enclosure.

Capitalism is equal opportunity for everyone at its best. When demonized, its viewed as evil toward those who have seized that opportunity!

How did the government, with no central bank, create inflation?

The same human tendency to dominate and gain power works in all human systems, whether it be business, politics, religion or almost whatever have you.
So, the same people who would dominate a capitalist system would dominate the control of it. It is the same type of person.
Evidently, it is not by attacking the institution that victory can be achieved. Human psychology must evolve.

Nah. Not any time soon. The challenge is to develop an institution to accommodate our psychology, rather than conform it or pray it evolves.

That, in turn, must become corrupt if we apply the failed Old Way Thinking.

Corruption isn't a must, per sa. Any economy has to be flexible if it is going to be tolerated... It could also choose to have authoritarian defense.

I think old thoughts have to be studied and only reintegrated, rebranded or remodeled... many many merits of our current thinking make it appropriate for our current condition.

Sorry for jumping in, but during what perioud of American history?

"Capitalism is equal opportunity for everyone."

Link?

No, really, is that from a dictionary or just a wishful hope? It doesn't seem apparent a priori. At most we might say that a capitalist economic system can offer equal opportunity, though it remains to identify the goal; opportunity to do what? Or is the point that money is not the most important thing, it is the only thing?

Really? There was inflation cause by Alexander The Great and there was no central bank then either. Really?

Opportunity is demand in capitalism, so it only goes to people with value, not everyone. 'Equal' is likely an indication of some social-something (yes, whether opportunity or outcomes),

Hey, it's just business.
Meatheads "working" for your masters. That damn Noriega wanted all the profits.
Take them freedom. Same old shit.

Everyone has equal freedom to succeed or fail due to their own abilities and effort. There is no guaranteed equality.

That's when armies created their own money, and yes, to a certain extent, inflation was a problem. The penalty for making false currency then was death. prices alway rose where ever the army went as well. But that has more to do with demand and scarcity. Alexander the Great coins are among the easeyer coins to attain. Often troops would bundle their money together and bury it before a battle. The idea was that the living will devide the money of the dead among themselves after. Sometimes none of them survived. There are still troves of un found currency out there. The face of Alexander on the coins worked as a propaganda campaign throughout the middle east and south east europe. But now I'm rambling.

Well, there was inflation from a flood of gold into Spain - but that wasn't the government's doing per se.

Can you show us the pre-enclosure inflation and how enclosures helped the wealthy weather it?

inflation is driven by many factors. Not just a modern construct. Too few beads, too few animals in the herd has affeced economics throughout history. Beads (historical cultural cash) cheap, Food such as cattle, sheep, Gnu (LOL) expensive!

I’m just pointing out to 8537 that inflation can come from government without a central bank. Inflation in the 1500 was caused by King Henry VIII cut the silver content in new coins for two years to subsidize excess spending. This caused inflated prices and labor costs. These forced the nations wealthy to become more efficient and enclosure was a way of doing it.

Sure. They had the power to fix the supply, spend massive amounts of money, and fix the weights and measures.

That is all well and good, but 'freedom' is not synonymous with 'opportunity'.
