What a Recent Visit to Egypt Taught Me

February 23, 2016—We just returned from a vacation to Egypt, and I must say that it was a staggering experience to see the historical places that I had heard and had read about all my life.

For example, I stood about three feet away from the exposed face and feet of the mummified body of Ramses II at the Cairo Museum. Just imagine, this famous and highly successful pharaoh reigned over 3300 years ago—and he himself was right here! And, although our tour included an armed guard on our bus and often a police escort, we never felt that this security was actually necessary. Granny wantin' to know...

... did ya learn how to...

... walk like an Egyptian?

How do they walk, Walt? I walk like a New Yorker so everyone had better get out of my way or you get run over by the shopping cart.

Egypt is a facinating country. I've been there 3 times, before the more recent troubles. I had a private guide in Cairo & Alexandria and also went to the King Tut exhibit at the Cairo Museum, with my guide; I also went to the Red Sea and the Valley of the Kings. I never felt that my security was threatened.

Sounds like you had a great time while visiting Egypt, Esmeralda. It's a shame what is happening there that many tourists are now staying away. Not only are they missing an opportunity to see some very ancient sights, but Egypt depends a lot on its tourism. I would imagine that there are many, many Egyptians out of a job now.
