What a communist US would look like.

It is November 20XX, and America has just woken up to its first morning of communist government.

Here is what I would expect to see:

1) Reporters from the LA Times, NYT etc are arrested and incarcerated for 're-education'. TV stations, newspapers and blogs are largely closed. Some remain operational, but with government employees on the editorial panel.

2) The government nationalises entire key industries, namely banking, mining, energy, transport and telecommunications.

3) Trade union representatives are given seats on the boards of all remaining listed companies, with most companies also being delisted.

4) The US dollar is fixed at a flat rate to the Yuan and Euro.

5) Secret police attend every university and 'suspicious' cultural group.

6) All communications are monitored by the state.

7) Membership of the Party becomes mandatory for all civil servants.

8) Detention without trial becomes the norm. Citizens can be arrested and held for any reason.

9) The military are allotted 20% of the seats in Congress and the Senate.

10) Political parties are outlawed.

Is that all, couldn't you use more examples? It will never happen. The Constitution would have to be discarded or destroyed through legislative action, which would result revolt by the masses.

Moonglow -

No, it will never happen in the US, because probably less than 1% of Americans would want it to happen. It just isn't in American culture to be communist.

Even in the left wing of the Democrat party there are probably only a half-dozen people who actually hold real hard-core communist ideas - and they will be considered embarassing by the other 99%.

Americans should relax and focus more on what could actually happen during the next 20 years.
