We're Bad, It's a Given, NOW What About the UN?

The UN has outlived its usefulness. If it were a corporation, it would collapse under it's own weight.

Their failures cost people their lives:

Somalia, Rawaanda, Serbrinca, Sudan, need I go on?

What happened to the world when Japan and Germany left the Leage of Nations when they didn't have their way!!!

I,m sorry but some of you guys sound like fascists..I say this because I've never heard such nationalism being expressed like some of ya...yer can't just say that your country should dispense of a world organisation when it doesn't agree with them. It doesn't work like that...if that did happen then we'd find that the world might start to draw worrying conclusions
....and by the way I'm not some leftist red- under- the-bed- liberal...I just think that democracy appllies to the world just as it does to one nation.!!

Your comparing America to 2 Totalitarian Regimes in which freedom and civil liberties were crushed in favor of the state? Where genocide not only occured but was ordered and systematically carried out? IS that what your comparing our criticism of the modern UN too? How wholely unequivacal.

You tell me if the UN is relevant in the modern world.

"I just can't believe want some people are saying about The United Nations!!"

Okay Arnold, before you piss everybody off by slinging around accusations of facism consider this scenario:

You're the rich kid on the block. You own a large house. You allow several poor people to occupy some of the rooms in that house, essentially rent-free. You give them a generous allowance intended to feed and clothe them and provide for their education.

Then you find out that the money you have been giving these folks has been spent on pot parties and pornography and that instead of showing a little gratitude, they are secretly plotting to steal the rest of your house and the rest of your money.

We were instrumental in forming the UN.

We are its main fiscal support.

We are the country that feeds a huge part of the world. Much of that at no charge.

But instead of facilitating relief and humanitarian efforts, the corrupt leeches at the UN siphon off huge sums of OUR money and divert it to their personal use. Worse yet, in some cases they have used OUR money against us.

Tell you what - if you think the UN is such a worthwhile organization, why don't you point out how it has helped this country at any time during the last 20 years.

Why don't you show us some examples of the UN's fiscal responsibility.

And why don't you show us some of the many benefits you seem to feel that we derive from it's actions.

Your right to say it needs reforming...all organizations need a good reforming...though I wouldn't compare the United Nations to a corporation. How is not useful...do you mean no longer useful to the U.S cos some members don't agree on one matter ie Iraq.
The U.S could get rid of the Veto powers and replace them with developing countries , especially ones wanting lots aid, investment and debts written off. Perhaps then it would be useful!

To take you at my leisure. Sounds like my dad and kids. Damn, sounds bad.

Now the question is, do they help me or me them? Hmmm, been trying to figure this out.

Ahh but we couldnt because in the UN we are only the muscle and the money. We have no say in removing players like France or Germany from having a veto despite the fact that France and Germany are borderline thrid world countries themselves. We leave and the UN would crumble in 5 years due to financial loss and lack of military resources to do anything.

Germany has no veto but you are right we can't but I think some nationalists would like to do just that!!...and have you actually ever been to Germany or France??? Third world it ain't!!!

Get Real if the U.S left the UN all what would happen is that the world would persume that rednecks have taken power and hope for reason, fraternity, and liberty to return to the U.S.

Love the way you always back up your opinions with your opinions.

The real question concerning the UN is: Should we really even listen to a body, more than half of whose members are representatives of dictators? One could argue our very allowance of such individuals into the UN lends them a credibility that is morally reprehensible on our part. That is if that person considered the UN a moral body. I doubt there are many who post here who would argue that.

I think when people on this board advocate a new international body to replace the UN, the existence of so many degenerates being treated equally with democratically elected leaders is the cause. The Chinese head the UN International Court for goodness sakes.

Any worthwhile new international body must be composed only of democratic states that guarantee their citizens, at the very least, the freedom to worship as they please and the freedom of political discourse.
