It is an immutable fact that Nazis are the lowest of the low unless compared to the Islamists who routinely practice slavery of their own women (which the Nazis didn't).

However, to consider the Wehrmacht (the Regular Army), and especially the fanatical SS as a bunch of military incompetents indicates an awesome ignorance. These were easily the best military in WWII until they were decimated by the overwhelming superiority in the number of men and technology of the Allies....and Hitler's bungling.

As for the Commies: approx 90% + of the Soviet Officer Corps was wiped out by Stalin just prior to Hitler's invasion of USSR. As the war continued Stalin was more amenable to his top general's recommendations (Especially Marshall Zhukov). The reverse happened with Hitler.

At the time of the Battle of Kursk (the greatest tank battle in the history of any war.....by far), the Soviets were a formidable force more than equal to the Allies. The Battle of the Bulge was a minor skirmish compared to Kursk in matter of numbers of men, equipment and historical significance.

The Nazi loss at Moscow for the first time signified that Germany might not win the War in USSR. The Nazi loss at Stalingrad signified that Germany will not win the War in USSR. The Nazi loss at Kursk removed any doubt that Nazi Germany will be defeated not only in USSR but WWII. Everything went down hill for the Nazis after Kursk. The Battle of the Bulge was just a last gasp. Germany was kaput by then. Germany was a spent force due to its battles on the Eastern Front. The Nazis were in full retreat everywhere in USSR at the time of the Battle of the Bulge.

In retrospect, Germany accomplished military miracles. But, it bit off too much and we know the result.

I'm pretty sure that Stalin murdered approx 20 million Russians.

Of course, Pol Pot obliterated a helluva larger proportion of his Cambodians.

But US and Brit POWS got far better treatment in German POW camps (Red Cross visits etc ) that in Japanese camps. Had an uncle who was shot down over Germany - said he was decently treated by the Germans for6 months

Well...reciprocity.
The Russians were seen as subhumans, so about THREE POINT TWO MILLION of their POWs died in german POW camps (out of five million Soviet POWs in total).
Most of them of died of hunger, malnutrition, of cold or in a concentration camp.

The fate of german POWs in the USSR was gruesome as well, although there was no systematic extermination behind it.

WWII was won or lost on the Eastern Front. All battles in the West were, compared to the scale on the Eastern Front, rather minor. This should not diminish what was done and achieved there, but without the bravery and the sacrifices Europe would have not been freed.

The Brits lost approx. 300000 in WWII, the US about the same.
The USSR lost 20 million people.

Still, if you have a look about the movies Hollywood made, what happened on the Eastern Front is blended out.

As the soldiers of the Western Allies were treated according to the Geneva Convention, so the Allies did with their POWs.
