Washington is not a swamp.

You want to know what a liberal is , look no further than the man you hired, trump, and well he is also a good definition of a sociopath, self absorbed, egomaniac.

Now your righties , fake Christians, have very little empathy for the less fortunate who through no fault of their own were born into a poor family
You are literally insane. What liberal wants less taxes, less business regulation, a real border, shutting down sanctuary cities, and on and on.

Fake Christian? You haven't got an honest bone in your body. And lots of people grow up poor and end up doing pretty well. It's why people migrate here. If you can't make it in America, you can't make it anywhere. Move to Cuba.
The America we once knew doesn't exist anymore, yes many opportunities are still there but most are gone now for the vast majority of people. Gone are the days, for most, where one can pick a career path and rely on following that path to retirement, over the last couple of decades divorce alone has filled the ranks of the poor with single mothers trying to survive plus feed and cloth their children. Of course Penelope is wrong thinking is just being born into poor families, that's the old mechanism that today comprises the minority of welfare cases. Today the biggest welfare demographic is single divorced mothers of all races though within that group the biggest demographic is white single mothers.
Blue collar wages in this country are no longer big enough to meet the current cost of living forcing some families to rely on one or more of the government assistance programs at least temporarily, many of the elderly and disabled are stuck with having to rely on the government for assistance often through no fault of their own.
If you're on Unemployment Insurance you have to be actively seeking work, if on TANF you have to work 30 to 50 hours a week to be eligible. SNAP (food stamps) benefit bases it's monthly allotment on and average of $1.50 per meal per person. About 82% of SNAP goes to children, the elderly and the disabled who can't work. That's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the reality of "welfare".

No swamp? Explain how politicians that earn $100-200k a year become wealthy beyond imagination. Explain how corporations that donate heavily to said politicians grow bigger and richer while the middle class stagnates or slides backwards. The OP is just a lame attempt to justify socialism. We cannot tax and spend our way into prosperity, if we could we wouldn't be 20 trillion in the hole.

Lets watch Trump, we shall see how its done.

And the easier is is to get on the government dole the more there will be of it. As we are experiencing now. The whole point of this election was to turn it around. You think it's not possible? Many disagree. The government has not been friendly to business in many many ways and business is where the wealth comes from, not printing presses.

The better business does, especially small business, the better the economy is. That translates into better pay for better jobs. It's sad to see so many hang their head in gloom thinking it's hopeless and we are just circling the drain.

It's easier to get on the dole? I'm 100% disabled and it took me 5 years of fighting the government to get disability benefits, my lawyer got $6K for making that happen, I've worked and paid in all my life. People are hanging their heads in defeated gloom? I'm not, just understanding what's happening on a historic basis, history repeating itself. The rise in assistance was due to the real estate bubble bursting in 2008 and for most was/is temporary, will it get better? Yeah but I seriously doubt Trump can turn it around to the degree many are hoping for and that won't be either party's fault, it is what it is. The problem with "welfare" isn't the programs themselves, it's the rhetorical political club both sides use to bash each other over the head simply to garner votes.

Or it isn't that simple and some people are willing to make things work. Yes, it's doom and gloom to think otherwise. We either listen to the positive voices and be part of the solution or the negative ones that are part of the problem.

Your personal story doesn't alter the fact that we have a record number of people on welfare of some sort and it drags the economy down. Suing the government for disability checks? That's not me.

I remember the Carter years and the Misery Index, double digit inflation, gas rationing etc. Then Reagan turned it around so no, it isn't just two parties duking it out. That's a cop out.

You believe it's a cop out, fine, it's not but if that's what you want to believe. You wouldn't sue for disability? Hope you never find yourself in that position, honestly, hope you never find yourself in the position my wife and I found ourselves after the 2008 bubble burst where all our planning and work suddenly came to naught. Hope you remain perfectly healthy and not end up in my shoes.

Your personal story doesn't change the big picture. The fact is that many do abuse the system. A gal down the road has to weigh over 500lbs. She literally cannot work. I'm sure she's on disability. Only in America you can eat until you are disabled then get payed for it. That's the kind of nonsense that has to stop.

The housing crash effected my business a little. Obama's election much more. Commercial work all but dried up. I closed the business while still in the black and opened a different one. My house was safe because I bought a modest one and made double and triple payments. Payed it off 20 years ahead of schedule.

Many many people bought big and new cars etc. Living at their earning level or beyond. Many bought second and third homes to flip. That played a huge role in the crash too. It wasn't just two parties duking it out with all the innocents getting screwed.

Well, it's nice to be lucky or blessed, you have no clue what our circumstances were/are yet choose to base you idea of our and others circumstances on your experiences and think others weren't doing what you did, life doesn't work that way. Our business was as independent government contractors, guess what happened to that, we tried other avenues but they didn't pan out except for the wife's but that route is now moot, she was doing ACA implementation and compliance for medical centers and hospitals. She's trying to adjust her focus but is always overqualified......... Then in 2012 my health severely deteriorated. We weren't as lucky or blessed as you.
Are there people who abuse the system? Of course there are but they are the minority, our situation is more indicative of the reality yours is still a farce based on decades old political rhetoric that attempts to paint the minority as the majority. Does the system need better oversight? What system doesn't?
