None the less our founding fathers used high tariffs to boost our fledgling industires and I believe Japan and China have done so last century.

as I said the tariffs are not temporary. Consumer Reports says their cars are far superior and yet the tariffs stay. One has nothing to do with the other. Is this really over your head?

Current Russian cars are the same quality as Hungarian cars. Makes for interesting reading. There is nothing to figure out. Putting someone on welfare or a tariff is a big negative as it frees them from competition and impoverishes those who must pay the higher prices and endure the lower quality. We have free trade now mostly because it is the one thing economists can agree on.
