3 Kansas police officers injured by shotgun in vacant home
Sun, February 28, 2021, 10:35 AM
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Three Wichita, Kansas, police officers were injured by a shotgun blast when they checked out a vacant home, authorities said.

Wichita Police said Sunday that “a modified, loaded shotgun” discharged as the officers entered the home around 4 p.m. Saturday. Investigators determined that no one in the home at the time, but the homeowners had called police suspecting someone was inside after noticing that some windows were open.

Police said two officers remained hospitalized Sunday with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening. One officer was in serious but stable condition and the other was being treated for minor injuries. A third officer who was hurt was treated at a hospital Saturday and released.

A law enforcement officer was shot and killed in New Orleans on Friday night, reportedly while trying to escort the suspect away from a high school basketball game.

The suspected gunman was reportedly in custody.

The slain officer was identified as Martinus Mitchum, 38, according to NOLA.com.

Teams from Carver and Warren Easton high schools were meeting in a playoff game at Carver High School when the suspect tried to enter, FOX 8 of New Orleans reported.

The officer was working as a security officer for the game, WWL-TV reported.

The suspect had been arguing with a school employee and the law enforcement officer attempted to intervene and remove the suspect from the building, according to NOLA.com.

At some point, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the officer in the chest, the report said.

Multiple shots were fired, according to a photographer from WWL who was at the scene.

When you're a cop you just never know when you time is up. Tough job and dangerous as hell. Moreso it seems, recently.

Not really. Only 48 police officers were killed by gunfire in the line of duty in 2020. It's just not a huge number, considering that in the same year, 1000 people were killed BY police.

I hope they catch the gun.

I hope they catch the effers that setup the booby trap. I'm thinking a lot of cops have been and are going to be retiring as soon as they can, and many more will be looking for another job where they ain't such a target. Across the country, cops are leaving the force in significantly larger numbers than in years past. Can't blame 'em either. And here's the problem with that:

Fewer cops = More crime of all kinds

Wait a minute. How does a homeowner who is not home, know that he has windows open and is concerned to call the police, yet not close enough to just go in and close the windows themselves? Then how does the shotgun go off when there was no one home to operate it?

The article is not telling us something.

.......you are always fking up----most of those shot by police are justified--not murder...blacks MURDER over 3000 blacks every year....in my math class 3000 is more than 1000.....

''''''Contrary to the Black Lives Matter narrative, the police have much more to fear from black males than black males have to fear from the police. In 2015, a police officer was 18.5 times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male was to be killed by a police officer.'''''''

For what reasons?

bad training.
Unions that keep departments from firing bad apples
A gun culture that makes cops too trigger happy.
A legal system that protects rogue cops.

Oh, wait, you're looking for reasons to JUSTIFY the fact cops shoot 1000 Americans every year. Sorry, can't help you there, the volume is unjustifiable.

Meanwhile, British cops last year only shot 5 people.

German police only killed 14 people in 2019

Japanese Police killed 2 people in 2018

In other words, you don't know. You just have bias and ignorance.

I already knew that, Walter. My question was rhetorical.

I already know. We've made it really easy for cops to shoot people and get away with it....

Which is why we have this problem and the rest of the world... doesn't. They actually maintain law and order without randomly killing their citizens. They also have lower crime rates.

Now, I could bore you with how they have policies like Sensible Gun Control, Treating addiction like a disease instead of a crime, fully funding mental health intervention, or poverty relief programs.... but you guys don't want to hear that.

Vast majority of cop shootings are 100 percent justified , you peon

The olde shotgun booby trap. The fact that Police Officers weren't killed by a face full of 00 Buck is at least a consideration for the poor guy who was trying to protect his property.

Oh, so no need to ban guns, right?

Not sure why anyone would want to join LE right now...

Most nations limit who comes into their nations. Even so the Western Europeans Are being brutal to their own people now as they may be "free' but has no Bill of rights like we do.
