Waitress Fired after Bitching about Cheap "Campers" on Facebook

You notice I never give the name of the big bank I used to work for. There is still a prayer I might get to work for them again.

I am going to be as quiet as a small mouse in a cat house.

I'm a firm believer that those who've worked in the service industry are prone to tip because they understand how it is. I was a bartender in college and always, ALWAYS tip. It would have to be a pretty fucked up experience in general not to tip my usual 20% of the bill.
Speaking of which, I took mi mujer out on Friday for some dinner and jazz music. I happened to know one of the members of the band and tried tipping them 20 bucks just to play Bill Withers's "Ain't no sunshine when she's gone". Of course, being a friend, he would not take it. So, I added it to the server's tip. People who are stingy on tipping are petty as hell.
that being said, she could have been more anonymous with her bitching.

So you know the difference between good serviace and bad since you were part of the industry.

Do you tip bad service?

Where did you get this figure from? I waitressed 20 years ago and didn't receive minimum wage. Got some paltry amount plus tips. I couldn't get the owner to schedule me for Thurs, Fri or Sat nights, when business was brisk so I ended up working lame lunch and the odd night. Didn't make shit money-wise. Have they changed how waitstaff gets paid?

I on the other hand have see waitstaff rolling out with a couple hundred bucks (tax free) in their pockets every single night. And they still bitch and complain!

San Francisco minimum wage will stay at $9.79 in 2010
Florida is $4.23/hour

generally, unless there is some cataclysmic fuck up or rude service, I don't try to judge service like a sommelier tastes wine. It's a benefit of the doubt sorta thing.

To those not in the "biz" -"Campers" are those people who sit in your section all night long, taking up your table. They sat at her table for 3 hours, and left her a 5 dollar tip. So she bitched about it on Facebook and got fired.

I'm a waitress and I feel her pain, it's sad that you can't even gripe on a social network anymore. Corporate restaurants are such bullies, I know I work for one. Maybe writing this will get me fired.

I am a FABULOUS tipper. A 100% tip is not out of my range. However, I will not, and refuse to tip for bad service.

I go out to eat constantly (it's just about my favorite hobby), and I rarely receive outright poor service. Usually I've found when people complain about routinely receiving poor service the problem is in the mirror.

FYI: Here in Indiana servers make $2.13 an hour most places.

In many places they have to tip out the bartender and busser, they should be each getting 10% of what you made in tips that night, so 20% of your tips are gone. You also have to claim 15% of you tips on your time card, so you can get taxed on them too.

Some nights you make hardly any money, other nights ok money, and usually you hope to get a Friday or Saturday night shift so you can make some good money.

Unless people camp in your section all night---------------------- then stiff ya!

FYI they are only taxed on what comes across on a credit card because its traceable. Cash tips are generally not reported.;)

So do you think straight salary would be better then the tip system?

I've got issues with waitstaff.

Think of it like this. Waitstaff get base salary plus tips.

Base miniium wage salery. 9.79 per hour.
5 tables sitting for one hour.
If each table no matter the amount of the check only left a $5 tip.

Do you really think that wait staff is worth aprox. $30 per hour? then think about if your check is 100.00 and you leave the "customer" 15% that's a $15 tip.

Just a thought because I am sick to death of complaining waitstaff that they don't make enough money. Or that someone didnt leave them enough. Or that they didnt GET the 15% which they are owed even if they give shit service.

Have you ever been a waitress? You have to deal with rude customers all day, drunks, people who complain for no reason, and people who leave you no tip, not because you did a bad job, but because they are cheap.
YOu can give them the best service possible, and people will still bitch. People treat people who work in customer service like they are their slaves.

I would call those stats inside information wouldn't you? Why do you think I have issues with the whining when they are making a fortune.

Makinig a fortune?
Maybe if they were working in vegas five years ago.

Where do you bitch about waitresses who ignore your table and won't even look at you when they walk by....but still expect a good tip?

, Sorry, my bad, you have to claim 15% of what you sell (ring up) that night.

I don't know......I've done both, put myself through college as a waitress and a bartender, now make a salary, with a steady pay check every 2 weeks, and knowing exactly how much money is coming in. As a server, it's a gamble sometimes...depending on business.

this is why I never complain where I eat! :D

That's when you get a manager and complain. They will bend over backwards to make sure you are taken care of.

*Also, don't blame the waitress if your steak isn't cooked right, or the kitchen F.U. something, it's not her fault.

Sometimes involving the manager will cause more trouble for the watestaff then they would want.

:lol::lol::lol::lol: Agreed. And trust me, I know who to blame :lol: Back of the house or front of the house :lol::lol:

TIPS it means to insure prompt service...maybe we should start giving them the tip to start with and we'll get better service?

If I get really bad service, I leave a quarter so they know I didn't forget to tip, I just thought they weren't worth it. I've only done it once in my life. A second time, I actually forgot to leave a tip and went back to the restaurant the next night and paid the cashier, telling her who it was for, don't know if it ever got to the right person or not.

I don't understand why anyone would complain about customers sitting at a table for hours, unless the place was busy. Heck we walked into a place that wasn't busy. The waitress was talking to her friends while we stood there for 20 minutes...we finally left and haven't been back since...there's no excuse for that lack of service.

I'm definitely in favor of getting rid of the "tip" system. Good service should be automatic, not based on what you "think" the people will leave you.
