Voter ID Requirements by State

California:
Identification Requirements to Cast a Ballot

Most voters will not need to provide identification or proof of residency when they vote. Usually, the ONLY time a voter in California is required to show any type of document before voting is if you:

  • Registered by mail or online;
  • Did not provide your driver’s license number, state identification number or last four digits of you social security number on your registration form; and
  • It is your first time voting on a federal election in this county.
In that instance, you may be asked for one of over 30 acceptable forms of identification or proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, utility bill or a check from the government. If you are voting by mail you should include a copy of this identification or proof of residency with your ballot. This does NOT have to be a photo ID. If you do not have any of these documents to prove your identity or proof of residency, you can vote by provisional ballot, which will be counted if the signature on your ballot matches the signature on your registration form. Be sure to ask an election official the deadline for providing your identification to the county elections office.

New York

Identification Requirements to Register to Vote

The New York Voter Registration Application asks applicants to provide a DMV identification number (either a driver’s license number or a non-driver ID number) or else the last four digits of their Social Security Number.

If you do not have either a DMV or Social Security Number, you can send a copy of the following acceptable forms of ID along with your registration form in order to establish your identity:

  • a valid photo ID;
  • a copy of a current utility bill;
  • a bank statement;
  • a paycheck;
  • a government check; or
  • some other government document that shows the applicant's name and address.
If an applicant’s identity cannot be verified before Election Day, she or he will be asked for ID when she or he votes for the first time.

Identification Requirements to Cast a Ballot

Most voters are not required to provide an ID at the polling place. However, if an applicant does not provide the above identification information with their voter registration application, he/she will be required to provide this information when voting.

Wow ... Amazing.

that seems pretty darn strict and thorough!

You don't have what the registrars office does with the ids that are presented, like check e-verify to make certain they are citizens...., or what poll workers do with checks, like make certain signatures match, address matches....

What is it that you are concerned with and please give an example of your concerns?

Can you show us a republican state that you think has a perfect system?

Why don't you read it again. When the law itself is very lax and loosy goosed about it, you can imagine it's much worse at the leftie run polling centers.

All it takes for you to be able to vote is a paycheck, utility bill, an insurance bill, or a piece of mail with your name and address on it. Something just about every illegal can come up with.

I have voted in 4 different States over the decades, and have never needed a photo id to vote and no one has ever voted in my spot or my entire town's spot illegally....voter impersonation fraud at the poll is highly unlikely....it is too risky.

Showing a recent utility bill with your name and address matching your voter registration application is more than I have ever had to do.... and a recent utility bill IS ENOUGH to identify that you are the person on the voter roll....why wouldn't it? It's not like someone stealing your identity is going to have your utility bill.

the vetting should take place when you REGISTER to vote, not after they have already approved you and have put your name on the voter roll...BEFORE that ever happens...

Therefore, an illegal immigrant voter can show up to the polling center of his / her district, without a voter registration form, showing something as inclusive as a phone bill...and still end up voting, fraudulently.

looks like about 3 million simple

We're constantly assured by the left that no voter fraud is occurring at any significant level, but if states don't verify citizenship and require only the most easily obtainable forms of "ID"...or no ID at all, how can you possible know?

The absence of obvious evidence does not mean a crime did not occur.

Then there's the anecdotal evidence. Lots and lots of examples.

Why do you post shit like that? All it will do is encourage voter fraud. Are you a pro-voter fraud activist?

You're also forgetting about ACORN, a Democratic Soros sponsored voter fraud machine. They got caught and were dismantled but they had already done their damage.

Actually quite the opposite. We have a very messy flawed voting system, which has been taken advantage of by Democrats over the decades.
