Vote Republican If You Want Equal Pay

Ladies, all this complaining about women not getting paid like men... Let's not forget, a lot of us including myself have either taken maternity leave or left the workforce temporarily to raise a family. Equal pay should be based on equal education, equal ability, and equal experience.

i am all for that...how long does maternity leave last for most people...6 weeks or so...i hardly call that dropping out in experience..i am always amazed at how willing other women are to hold other women down and make excuses for the men who do it...

In the U.S. Senate, Obama joined a bipartisan group of Senators to introduce the Fair Pay Restoration Act, a bill to overturn the Supreme Court's recent 5-4 decision in Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. The bill would restore the clear intent of Congress that workers must have a reasonable time to file a pay discrimination claim after they become victims of discriminatory compensation. Obama is also a cosponsor of Senator Tom Harkin's (D-IA) Fair Pay Act. As president, Obama will continue to promote paycheck equity and close the wage gap between men and women.

and dont even look for the source lol

ledbetter wasn't talking about maternity leave and you know that. Ledbetter had more experience and more time on the job than the men who were being paid more than she was.

I know some women really hate women who work, but I, personally, never left the work force and I deserve to be paid commensurate with my knowledge and experience regardless of having two X chromosomes.

If you are not making a salary commensurate with your male colleagues that have equal education, equal background and work experience, that certainly is an issue.

My point was this graph: It's clear women have done better under republican administrations.

Women, traditionally, who have children also have to take off more time due to childcare issues. Women and especially minority women are valued in the workforce but we have to weigh apples to apples.

no he didn't.

he also pays his female staffers 83 cents for every dollar he pays his male staffers.

he talks a good game.

Obama only talks a good game regarding gender-pay equity : Opinion : Ventura County Star

"Obama's commitment to federally mandated pay equity stretches from the Rockies to Wall Street and beyond. And, yet, it seems to have eluded his office. Compensation figures for his legislative staff reveal that Obama pays women just 83 cents for every dollar his men make.

A watchdog group called LegiStorm posts online the salaries for Capitol Hill staffers. "We have no political affiliations and no political purpose except to make the workings of Congress as transparent as possible," its Web site explains.

The most recent statistics are for the half-year from Oct. 1, 2007, to March 31, 2008, excluding interns and focusing on full-time personnel. For someone who worked only until, say, last Feb. 29, extrapolating up to six months' service simplifies this analysis. Doubling these half-year figures illustrates how a year's worth of Senate employees' paychecks should look.

Based on these calculations, Obama's 28 male staffers divided among themselves total payroll expenditures of $1,523,120. Thus, Obama's average male employee earned $54,397. His 30 female employees split $1,354,580 among themselves, or $45,152, on average.

Why this disparity? One reason may be the under-representation of women in Obama's highest-compensated ranks. Among Obama's five best-paid advisers, only one was a woman. Among his top 20, seven were women."

Maybe Obama is the Larry Craig of equal pay...he needs legislation to behave.

Or maybe it's got something to do with age and experience and/or job title.

In the "opinion piece" that he posted, they aren't talking about equal pay for equal work. They were talking about people in the top spots. And the "watchdog" site didn't break it down the same way, so I don't know how accurate the opinion is.

Vote republican if you want to continue subsidizing the ultra rich and the corporations.

Why isn't distributing the wealth upward socialism?

Yeah, seein as how we have the 2nd highest corporate tax rate in the world at 39.3% (Japan is at 39.5) and the top 1% of wage earners earn 21% of the income in the US and pay 39% of all federal income taxes collected. Furthermore the top 1% of wage earners pay more than the bottom 95% of wage earners. Evil rich assholes, we ought to just take it all and send 'em an allowance. :eusa_eh:
