Very cool reception for Obama at West Point.

you may be surprised how many in the military, including line Officers who have serious douts about Osama's qualifications.

After what Bush and the Republicans did, I'm sure it will be many years before the members of the military fully trust the government.

Come on. They tricked America into invading a country and replaced the government with an extreme Islamic government and they supported Kasai in Afghanistan and let Bin Laden go. How would you feel if you were putting your life on the line and your government fucked up in such an extreme way over and over again?

ROFLMNAO...

Ain't DELUSION GRAND?

Doesn't matter what you think Patek, at the end of the day, Barack Obama is the Commander in Chief.

Not for much longer....it all comes to an end....that's whats so good about our system of government....all we have to do is wait.

I am very sure that 20Jan17 will make you very happy. Which Democrat do you think will be President then?

You might be surprised how many Americans have no doubt at all about your lack of sanity.

Obama was received well enough, and his orders will be honestly and intelligently obeyed.

Bush was well liked, and he betrayed the officers and ranks to the extent very few of them today talk well of him as a commander-in-chief, much the same as with Reagan today. The Iran-Contral damaged the military's trust in him. As our Division Chief of Staff told me in 1989, "Thank God that prick is gone!"

I have no idea where you are getting your information to draw these conclusions about Bush and Reagan but you are so far from reality it makes one think you are posting from an insane asylum.

The fact of the matter is the military puts Reagan on a pedestal...that's why there's an aircraft carrier named after him and all Obama will get is a submarine. George W Bush was just as popular with the military as well...he'll get his carrier too.

Okay, here's another President addressing a West Point Commencement. Compare the response here to what Obama got this morning. Like President Bush, he too addressed the troops with concepts that directly affected them, and he didn't ignore them to go into a long convoluted policy speech in which he said nothing.

YouTube - President Ronald Reagan at West Point '81 P1

and this very speech by Reagan proves my whole premise in this thread....the country sees Obama as a weak, apologetic socialist. He may be Commander in Chief of the military but until he demonstrates some fortitude and quits catering to you left wing whackos who want everything handed to you on the dimes of someone else he will be viewed as an embarrasment to America's miitary.

Maybe it wasn't so wise to put up a picture of you for all of us to see. Just sayin'

My favorite speech I heard was in North Island Ca. Adm. Boorda. (I know what happened to him and believe me, its sad) but he made a speech, was asked a question and said the following......I DONT KNOW, but I will find the answer and get back to you. Some Captain runs up to the podium and Adm Boorda wispered something in his ear.

This captain RUNS off the stage and runs to the front of the theater. A few minutes later, he runs back to the podium and whispers something to the Adm. The admiral stopped talking about whatever he was talking about and asked the guy who asked the question to stand up. He then gave the answer to the question and thanked that sailor because he said he learned something that day.

That impressed the hell out of me. (Besides that, I think mustangs make great officers...::cool: )

A four star who said "I dont know". I have never seen this before or after Adm. Boorda.

A rare occurrence indeed.

BTW, I thought what Hackworth did to Boorda was disgraceful. Hackworth was always pissed that he didn't make General.

Then, not so ironically, Hackworth got busted for claiming he had a Ranger Tab when he never went through Ranger School. There was some gray area b/c Hackworth had completed an ad hoc "Ranger Course" the Army had set up in Viet Nam, but he wasn't authorized to wear the tab (and never did while in uniform). No one cared b/c Hackworth wasn't on active duty and he blamed his secretary for the matter.

This happened after he made a stink about the Boorda issue.

the only thing stomped out of this thread was the assertion that Obama was well received by the audience in attendance. When Obama went on stage he got some applause BEFORE he began flapping his gums....once he began rattling off his TOTUS talking points the crowd basically thought..."here we go again..."

and funny Zona finds Boorda so likeable...Boorda got busted for wearing ribbons he was NOT entitled to wear...then he committed suicide!!!!

The culture at the Academy is always reserved when any President speaks there with the exception of Ike and Grant.

Neither. I'm referring to friends and family who were/are officers or enlisted.

so...you HAVE no personal experience in uniform?

got it.

I do. I was commissioned. I am an academy graduate. We were and current classes are the cream of the officer corp and we certainly were and are the cream of society. We did not, nor do current classes consider themselves merely a representative sample of society, but the best of society - those who want to join the warrior profession for a lifelong career.

If you in fact are an academy graduate and a member of the officer corp. I thank you for your service.

I do, in fact, have a difficult time believing that. I do know those who are and have been in the military and who are academy graduates who are left of center in their basic sociopolitical philosophy.

I have NEVER met one, however, who promoted the views that you promote or who holds such a convoluted view of history as you hold or who would use the racist metaphors to describe national leaders as you use. That isn't to say that I haven't met others like you or that this necessarily makes you a bad person. But it sure does call the veracity of your service into question for me.

your thanks for my service and a dollar buys me a cup of coffee. I could give a shit about your opinion of me.... the paycheck you send me every month spends just as smoothly whether you believe I am a retired commander or not. got it? You wanna bet me enough money, I'll fax you a picture of my ID card

and my view of history is not convoluted in any way. my view of the unstoppable march of liberal progressivism over the last century is completely accurate. My view of the history of the GOP and racism in the last three decades of the last century is totally on the mark.

The military and liberals obviously have a differing sets of views...values if you will...is this what your saying Polk? If so...what's different?

and rdean....I will not comment on your lunatic rantings.

Sure, but it's not just liberals. The military has a different set of views and values from society at large.

I would like to know what you think a "different set of views" is with relation to vet's, military and society as a whole....because I don't see it. Unless you are refering to service to one's country which is give give give vice the me me me I I I I take take take gimme gimme gimme of those who will remain nameless.

Not the officers and ranks, PP, and your comments demonstrate you have no real understanding of the American military. The Chief of Staff's comments was not uncommon during that time. And it was a Republican congress, not the military who named the carrier, and I understand that after the 2010 elections, the name will be changed to the William J. Clinton. That will force the GOP to defend Reaganism and corruption and his follies in the middle of a national election. The debate will swamp the Republican presidential candidate so that the candidate will be looking back instead of forward. Bush will never get a tug boat named after him. Not by any Democratic or Republican congress.

No, our "country" thinks no such thing, only a small fringe wacko faction far beyond the conservative right. Moderate Republicans, centrists and independents, and Democrats all laugh at that kind of silliness.

The American people still hate the GOP for what happened to the wars, the economy, Katrina, the attempt to turn Social Security over to a raid by Wall Street, etc. Why do you think is almost never invited to speak.

Yeah...I been serving for 30 years in the military and I have no real understanding of it...OK Jake...time for your meds....

and you are sadly mistaken about renaming the ship..lay off the booze...it'll never happen.
