USC - one time BCS national champions

You watch Canadien Football?
I suppose you don't either.

But since you mentioned it, I do watch Canadian Football from time to time. Its rules are different, and it makes for a different game.

1) goal posts on the goal line
2) 110 yard playing field
3) 25 yard endzones
4) a touchback is called a "rouge" and counts for 1 point
5) defensive players must line up at least one yard behind the LOS, and may not impede a receivers progress at any point.
6) Because of 5, if you get the ball to less than 1 yard from a TD, but not a TD, they put you back on the 1.
7) When there is less than 2 minutes left in the half, or 5 minutes left in the game, the playclock stops after each play.

And of course - the biggest rule differences

I. 3 downs to go 10 yards
II. 12 men - 5 backs, 7 on the line

Lots of kicking. Lots of pass plays. Lots of turnovers on downs.

What were all their records going into the bowl games?

You mean in 2003? Oklahoma and LSU were both 12-1, USC was 11-1.

So even by a casual glance at the .pct's, its clear Oklahoma and LSU were the correct choices for the national championship game.
