US government declares hacking an act of war, then hacks allies

By ASHE SCHOW | JULY 1, 2013

In 2011, the Pentagon released its first formal cyber strategy, which called computer hacking from other nations an "act of war," according to the Wall Street Journal. In late June of this year, WSJ reported that Edward Snowden, the NSA whistleblower, released information alleging the U.S. government was hacking Chinese targets "that include the nation's mobile-phone companies and one of the country's most prestigious universities."

Now that EU offices have been hacked by the U.S. government as well, one must wonder if that was an "act of war" on the part of the United States.

I certainly hope we are the best at it.

Snowden was third string, so let's hope we are better.

These fruitloops that oppose intel gathering, at least as long as it is done under President Obama, have obviously never read Clauswitz.

Hell will the allies he is hacking the american people . The very thing he was against with BUSH . He does it two fold. Why was it bad under bush but it is so great under Obama for the liberals. I just dont get it..

What you really don't get is that we liberals like it no better under Obama than under Bush. We just find it screamingly hypocritical that you people are the ones that were calling us traitors and stating that we were supporting terrorists when we said that we did not like it under Bush.

As for intel gathering on other nations, all nations do it, and justly so. Keeps the peace when you have an accurate picture of what the other guy is up to.

Jake the Progressive Neocon! Big Government and never ending wars!

And your type of nonsense in the 1930s led to Pearl Harbor.

suds, there is a fine balance between neo-conservatism and isolationism.

lolz. Why do you hate the FF's and the constitution so much? Now we have it your way, war with anyone and everyone... spying on our best friends and citizens, even assassinating US citizens!

You are off topic, the FFs had nothing to do with hacking. Let's get you back on tracks. A strong intelligence effort will lead to less wars.
